Popular potato wedges have been given a spicy makeover

SPICE OF LIFE

Aviko has added new spicy, skin-on potato wedges to its range of added value potato products. A versatile addition to the menu, the gluten-free wedges can be served as a snack, as part of a plated meal or sharing platter, or as a side order. Comments Mohammed Essa, general manager UK and Ireland, Aviko: "Feedback from our customers tells us that consumers are looking for more exciting flavours. Our range of wedges have always been popular so we decided to turn up the heat and make them more fiery. And because Aviko's new wedges are gluten free and are non-fried, they are healthier too." To celebrate the launch Aviko is giving one lucky person the chance to win a meal for two at the award winning Mexican restaurant, Green & Red, worth £200. To enter the free prize draw, simply visit www.aviko.co.uk and sign up for the company's quarterly trend letter before September 30.

COME AGAIN Aimed at eco-friendly consumers, the new Australian-designed, re- useable KeepCup not only reduces landfill and environmental impact, it has also been carefully designed to match the standard sizes available in coffee shops (8oz, 12oz and 16oz). The number of disposable cups discarded annually the world over runs into billions - and not all are biodegradable or recyclable. KeepCup is challenging habits by encouraging people to take their personalised KeepCups to their usual coffee shop, where it fits under standard barista-style coffee machines. KeepCup

is made of recyclable propylene and silicone and is dishwasher safe, microwaveable, stackable, splash-proof, BPA-free and lightweight. It can also be personalised to the user's individual taste or a company's colour scheme with a logo, thanks to the removable components and extensive range of colourways. "It's about keeping the convenience of our lifestyle where we can but returning to the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle in everything we do," says KeepCup co-founder Abigail Forsyth.

GETTING IN A SCRAPE Dyson has introduced a new white version of its AirbladeTM

hand dryer - the

only hand dryer certified hygienic for food prep facilities. Drying hands in just 10 seconds, the Dyson machine works by channelling 400mph (640 kph) sheets of unheated air to scrape water from hands like a windscreen wiper. Staff working in a kitchen or preparing food behind the counter must continually wash their hands. Unlike warm air hand dryers, the Dyson Airblade doesn't rely on evaporation to dry hands - making it up to 80% more energy efficient, as well as substantially quicker. It also works out cheaper than using paper towels (the Airblade is the first and only hand dryer to receive the Carbon Reduction Label from the Carbon Trust, Dyson tells us, and in fact, it has a 70% smaller carbon footprint than towels). A HEPA filter cleans the air before blowing it onto hands, so it's also hygienic. The machine's sealed casing is infused with anti-microbial additives, eliminating 99.9% of surface bacteria.
