BESPOKE Counterline has made high-quality bespoke servery counters and food merchandiser displays since 1983. Free- standing and drop-in heated food merchandisers can display pre-cooked produce such as hot rolls, pies, pasties and chicken portions, while maintaining the correct temperature. fully enclosed with rear doors for staff assistance. They have energy-saving eye-level electronic controls that reduce running costs and carbon footprint. You can combine any mix of units to form an elegant, continuous counter run. All shelf levels are illuminated and the produce is displayed on bright polished stainless steel shelf covers that can be removed for daily cleaning. Amaco Catering distributes Henny Penny upright heated cabinets with a simple heater with fan or including a humidifier to keep chicken pieces, apple pies and other lines moist for longer. The HEC-103 (three-shelf) and HEC-104 (four-shelf) self-serve hot express cases save floor space and offer merchandising opportunities for pre-packaged hot foods. They have clear side glass and angled shelves illuminated by fluorescent lights and there is front service access.

Countertop units include Henny Penny's humidified heated display with stainless steel construction and acrylic flip-top doors. The bottom tier is a humidified warmer with a controlled temperature water well, while the top tier has radiant heat. The unit opens for pass-through access and comes with three perforated pans, two solid bun pans and five grids. Sheffield Catering Equipment's DW211 and DW311 electric display warmers are stainless steel and tempered glass with chrome plated wire shelves, and have two and three full-size pans respectively. All four sides are clear glass with front curved glass and internal fluorescent light. Heat distribution is even

throughout, courtesy of thermostat-controlled ventilating hot air. The DC211 and larger DC311 tabletop display cooler units have a stainless steel and hardened glass body, chrome-plated wire shelves and internal lighting. Steady temperatures are maintained by forced air circulation and environmentally friendly R134a refrigerant. Jordon offers the glass-doored Tefcold BC range, from the compact one-shelf BC30 and two-shelf BC60 to the three-shelf BC145 with its double-glazed door and adjustable temperature. Also listed are fully automatic ranges from Interlevin, Framec and Norcool. There are five-shelf glass-door merchandisers from Tefcold, iarp and Norcold, as well as Telfrica heated buffet and chilled salad bar displays and patisserie cabinets with adjustable temperatures. Husky makes glass door upright chillers including the four-shelf Highland Spring-branded fridge and five-shelf models such as the C10-HY plain Mega double glass-door upright fridge, the C8-HY plain double glass-door upright chiller and the C5- HY plain single glass door upright fridge.

"Looking after the

environment is probably the last thing on the mind of café owners trying to keep their businesses going in the credit crunch era," says Geoff Thomasson, chief executive of the Husky group of companies. "But saving the planet is the most important issue we face as refrigeration manufacturers, and we need to help cafés and other premises to be much greener.

ENERGY SAVING

"Husky chillers save energy with thicker insulation, and contain natural refrigerant gases that have no effect on the ozone layer and minimal impact on global warming. Low-power lighting, heat- reflective glass, soft-start technology and intelligent controls reduce the amount of energy used - saving you money. "Chillers left on all day are unnecessarily expensive and contribute to global warming," continues Geoff. "But our new Intelligenzia is one of the most eco-friendly on the market, and doesn't cost more than ordinary refrigerators. It can turn itself off when dormant, and turn itself down when not in constant use." Components and packaging are also environmentally conscious and when you buy a new Husky unit the company will dispose of the old unit.

On the subject of energy efficiency Valera's refrigeration service manager Austin Keens says: "Despite all our efforts to produce energy saving refrigeration and display equipment, the biggest contribution to energy saving is completely out of our hands - it comes down to the user. Correct operation of equipment is the real key to energy efficiency.
