adhere to the basic rules. Firstly, keep the condensers clear. A build-up of dust and grease will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the refrigeration system because, in an effort to maintain the desired temperature, the compressor will be forced to run for longer than is necessary. This not only uses more electricity, but also shortens the life of the compressor. By cleaning the condenser at least once a month, and by investing in a maintenance programme to deep clean the unit with chemicals at least once a year - twice if in a particularly greasy environment - you will be able to make savings all round. "Another basic rule is to keep an eye on the operating temperature. Don't run the unit colder than is necessary.
Remember that every degree of temperature reduction means a power saving."

SECURITY Valera has a complete range of self service multidecks perfect for giving the consumer easy access to a wide range of products from dairy items to cold drinks. Cafés, sandwich bars, delis, juice bars and coffee shops will all find something in the range that fits the bill. From small standalone units like the Mandy and Danny with their tiltable shelves, night blinds, and range of optional extras, to larger units like the VMDSL and Calder Vision which can be multiplexed for even greater capacity there is something for everyone. The company's latest range, the Primus, even has a unit that comes complete with a roller shutter for added security. Always a concern with open fronted display units is whether the core temperature in the chilled compartment will fluctuate along with room temperature. The incorporation by Victor Manufacturing of a microprocessor-based temperature control system in its latest open fronted multi-tier display units means operators can be absolutely sure the core temperature remains constant whatever the ambient conditions. The new units have been designed to achieve a balanced air temperature, between 3 deg.C and 5 deg.C throughout the cabinet, in ambient temperatures of up to 27 deg.C at a relative humidity of 50%. These cabinets are designed to be stand-alone or to slot neatly into an existing counter line-up. The three height adjustable shelves offer ample room for displaying a variety of foods, including pre-wrapped sandwiches, chilled drinks, snacks, plated salads and large platters of cold foods.
