Teacher’s Professional Development Workshops The Downers Grove Park District Museum is an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approved professional provider. Teachers earn CPDUs for participating in these workshops. Workshops are specially designed and cover methods, information and resources available for use in the classroom. Activities provided meet state curriculum standards. Workshops may be customized upon request. Gather a group of teachers together and reserve your workshop today!


Program Ideas & Instructors Wanted! Do you have an idea for a new program or family event? Do you have a special talent that you would like to share with others? Are you willing to lead an existing program? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, please call the Museum at your earliest opportunity.


Museum Outreach Programs Let the Museum bring history to you! Learn about genealogy, preserving family heirlooms and the Museum profession. Programs can be tailored to your group’s interest and age level and includes a hands-on component.


Scout & Youth Group Programs The Museum offers a variety of hands-on, educational programs for scouts and other youth groups. Sharpen your thinking skills and explore your community’s past with an interactive group activity. Topics include maps of Downers Grove, historic architecture, cemetery walks and Victorian manners and games. Programs can be tailored for your group’s age level and specific interests upon request. Staff will help you match your organization with an excellent program. Programs may fulfill various scout badge requirements.

Volunteer Gardeners Wanted Join the Museum’s volunteer team and maintain the new heirloom vegetable garden. Help with planting, weeding, harvesting and related programs.


Upcoming Exhibits Religion in Downers Grove: A History of its Churches opens to the public with a special free reception on Sunday, September 19th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Churches provide an important linchpin in the foundation of a community. This exhibit explores the history of Downers Grove’s religious institutions and their relationship to the past, present and future residents of Downers Grove. This exhibit will run until January 7, 2011.


The traveling exhibit, 1968 in America, a program of ExhibitsUSA, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance and The National Endowment for the Arts, will be open to the public January 28 through May 25, 2011. The extraordinary events of that year witnessed profound change in social and political systems and confirmed to citizens of all ages that fundamental change was both possible and necessary. Look back on a tumultuous, pivotal and influential year—nationally and locally!
