READING ENRICHMENT: MEET THE INSTRUCTORS Joy McKenna O’Reilly: Joy has a BA from the University of Notre Dame and Master of Science in Education from Northwestern University. Joy has extensive experience teaching in the primary grades in River Forest District 90. She has a strong passion for helping students become confident readers and writers.
Alison McKenna: Alison has a BA from Gettysburg College and a Master of Science in Education from National-Louis University. Alison has extensive experience teaching in the primary and intermediate grades in area schools including Hinsdale District 181 and Western Springs District 101. She has a passion for helping students develop the strategies they need to become confident readers.
Reading Booster Club new!
Boost early reading skills in a small group setting. In this class, students read and discuss texts at their instructional level. Students build fluency, decoding skills, comprehension skills and response to reading. Class is designed for readers who struggle with grade level texts. Class includes an informal assessment of reading and spelling levels of development. At the end of each session, parents will have a list of age-appropriate books for home reading. Nurture and enrich a love of reading while building comprehension skills in small group sessions. Students read and discuss picture books or other short texts during each session. Students extend their interpretation of texts through brief written responses, drawings and dramatic readings. Authors include: Eve Bunting, Cynthia Rylant, Patricia McKissack, Judy Blume, Paul Fleishmann and many others! This class is designed for students reading at or above current grade level. Divas Disco new!
Glitzy Girlz great new class celebrates Halloween disco style! Dress-up for class in your best Rock Star attire and spend the evening in a modern disco. A cool up-do with colored hair spray and make-up application along with neon nail polish is featured. Make a craft with stamps, paints and embellishments for flair. Each girl will design a crystal bracelet with rock girl charm and cool pattern beads. Our dark disco begins with glow jewelry, disco lights and awesome music. Limbo, Freeze Dance, YMCA are just some of the dances we’ll rock out to. Refreshments and snacks are provided. Age:
