three faces of ‘e’

The Entrepreneur is always thinking. It is her Job. Thinking creates the vision from which all opportunities spring. Thinking is why an entrepreneur gets out of bed in the morning.

The Overseer is a little more pragmatic. This thinking thing is OK, but only about the current operation; the things for which she has responsibility. She does not want to think outside of her self-imposed boundaries.

The Doer would prefer not to think. Thinking is not work, and, there is always work to do. She knows what to do and how to do it. Why think about anything else?

• PROFITS

The Entrepreneur creates a machine that produces profits. The Overseer directs a machine that produces profits. The Doer works to produce money to live on.

• INNOVATION Innovation is the lifeblood of the Entrepreneur. If she does not create it, she finds people, with whom to associate, who can. It is the raw material for her entire world.

The Overseer is OK with innovation as long as it fits. If it makes her current activities easier or better, bring it on. If it changes the course of what she is doing, innovation is a little more problematic.

The Doer is not a fan of innovation. Doing things is what moves the world forward, not thinking up new things. There is too much to do to be innovating new things. • DISRUPTION The Entrepreneur loves disruption. It is her sport. She makes the messes.

The Overseer puts up with disruption. It gives her purpose. She cleans up the messes.

The Doer hates disruption. She can only focus on one thing at a time. She avoids the messes as much as possible.

• PARTS OF THE WHOLE The Entrepreneur sees her business in its entirety, and drills down to the parts.
