Ways to Cut Costs Without Selling Yourself Short

3 A 18 scrapbook business by: Derrick Dutson

s much as we don’t want to admit it, we’re all trying to watch

expenses. Let’s face it, after watching the failure of some of the world’s largest corporations during the past two years; it makes good sense to watch expenses. After all, cutting expenses is one of the quickest ways to increase the bottom line.

Unfortunately, cutting expenses isn’t simply a golden ticket to increased profits. Some managers choose to “do more with less”. I’m not necessarily an advocate for doing “more with less”, but I do think that the human mind can be extremely creative, and is very capable of devising strategies to increase operational

efficiencies. Here are three creative ways to cut costs without selling yourself short.

1. Cross Train Employees Today’s world expects specialization.

Economists even advocate specialization. Specialization can be an extremely useful method of keeping the most talented employees involved in specific areas. Home Depot uses this concept within its departments. For example, individuals working in the paint department have specialized training in paint products, and painting techniques. Over-specialization can, however, leads to excess employees, which in turn, can lead to excess expenses.
