2. Marathon Class/Crops An all-day scrapathon is what works for Laurie Johnston, Stop
N Crop Scrapbooking in Rock Springs, WY. “We do ten two-page layouts for $35,” she says. “It is an all-day class (10 am to 5 pm) during which we have a drawing and giveaways. We usually do simpler layouts that can be completed in the allotted time, so that everyone goes home with complete layouts, that only require pictures to be added to be finished.” She adds that these classes inspire her patrons to look closely at tools they hadn’t thought of using before. She uses the class to highlight items that move slower in the store when her customers don’t know how to use them.
3. Copic Markers Classes Copic Markers are hot! Tami Vetter, president of The Rustic Corner in Charles City, IA, explains that the Copic Marker Blending Class she offers for $25 is a big hit. Participants get two Copic Sketch markers and one blender pen, plus a small acrylic stamp, Memento Dew Drop Ink Pad, and a carrying case. “It’s a two-hour class that we provide pre-stamped images and teach techniques and tips on using Copic Markers, including the benefits of the marker, the types and colors, paper recommendations, accessories and parts.” She says students learn the difference in coloring with this marker versus a water-based one.
More than one retailer told us this was their most popular class. India Davis, of Scrapbook Mania, in Bessemer, AL, says her store hosts two Copic classes: Copic Beginner Classes and Copic 2 Class. The fee is $30 for the beginner class and they get three markers, and materials to make two cards. The advanced class teaches how to color faces and shading techniques, and only costs $14.50.

Perks Classes “My best-selling class is my Massage Crop,” says Michelle Layman, of Heavenly Memories in Raymond, WA. “It is a standard crop with meals, snacks and prizes included, BUT the cropper also receives a 10 to 15 minute massage at no extra cost. The total charge for the crop is $25, and includes a 10 percent shopping discount on any products purchased during the crop.” For Layman, it really works: “The ladies LOVE the pampering to go along with their kids-free, stress-free scrapbook day!”
