LION KINGS – THE PEUGEOT 3008 AND 508 E
arlier this year we tested two purring Peugeots, the 3008 GT Line Blue HDi 150 and the 508 SW GT BlueHDi 180. Let us tell you about the two weeks we spent with these terrific cars. First up the 3008 GT, which offers the best of both worlds with a superb engine and sleek sports styling. We really like the assertive front aspect with its chequered front grille and dynamic LED headlight configuration. The smooth flowing lines and modern 18-inch two-tone diamond cut alloy wheels make this a very fine car to look at. The Peugeot 3008 SUV GT Line model we tested is extremely sporty and the GT Line houses a BlueHDi diesel delivers heaps of power smoothly and economically, making this a powerful and versatile vehicle which is gentle on your wallet and the environment. The interior is sumptuous and full of excellent and genuinely useful technological details. There’s a configurable 8-inch touchscreen opening the whole digital world before you, an experience further enhanced by the panoramic opening glass roof with electric blind and blue ambient lighting. Out on the open road it doesn’t disappoint either. Even with a long wheelbase, its lighter chassis and sensitive electric steering means that the 3008 corners with precision and agility. It’s a roomy family SUV crossover but has that crisp, sporty edge which takes it miles from the original French MPV idea and brings in saloon quality styling and performance. And why not. The 3008 SUV GT also includes Smart electric tailgate with foot operation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop function and 3D satellite navigation, all thoughtful and generous

touches which contribute to this being a very impressive vehicle. Next, we turn our attention to the
Peugeot 508 SW. The exterior design on this car is really eye-catching. Many estates look like the saloon model with a rear extension but the 508 is a coherent design concept which creates a personality all of its own. Its extended body is fluent as well

as firmly structured and has a terrific vertically oriented front grille with the Peugeot lion in the middle. As we climbed aboard we took a few moments to take in the many aspects of design, technology and comfort which are built in to this class- leading passenger cabin. Inside the 508 SW, the materials used and the care and attention to detail contribute to the top-of- the-range feel. And as befits a forward- looking estate car in the 21st century there is a range of excellent onboard technology to make driving more pleasurable. For example, a reversing camera, blind-spot detection system and satellite navigation, all of which can be accessed via the 7" colour touchscreen. And on the road to journey continues to please. The 508 SW is one of the most versatile and nimble estate vehicles we’ve ever had the pleasure of testing. There are very good passenger cabin acoustics which renders silent the latest generation BlueHDi engine. The GT version we drove was very eager and responsive, especially in the lower gears on our manual model, which transcends that slight feeling of resistance and drag you sometimes find on a longer estate vehicle. Not so in the 508 SW. And this high performance is delivered whilst returning hugely generous fuel consumption figure of up to 64 MPG. The icing on the cake, indeed. The 3008 range is available from £26, 570 and the 508 SW starts at £26, 710. For full details and to book a test-drive visit
