righton & Hove City Council has granted, subject to planning, a five-year

temporary lease to Sea Lanes Brighton Ltd for the development of the former Peter Pan site on Madeira Drive, Brighton. At the heart of the development,

scheduled to open in November 2018, will be an outdoor heated swimming pool. The pool will see the city transformed into a national centre for excellence for open water swimming, bringing the seafront back to its former glory and act as a further catalyst for the regeneration of Madeira Drive. The pool will be heated and open to

everyone, of all swimming abilities, individuals wanting to swim to get fit and those training for open water swimming events and triathlons. Open water swimming has seen a 20 per cent annual growth since the 2012 London Olympics and the Sea Lanes swimming pool will contribute significantly towards the city’s swimming pool provisions – which currently reach only 44 per cent of the Government’s target. The locally-driven development has

been designed to benefit the local residents, and the local economy, whilst the wider regeneration plans for Madeira Drive are developed.

MARKET UPDATE FROM LAWSON COMMERCIAL

L

awson Commercial partner Chris Lawson reports: ‘Although the commercial property market seems to have got off to a slower start in 2018 nonetheless there is still plenty of enquiries for commercial buildings throughout the local area. Overall there is a shortage of commercial space available particularly in the retail and industrial sectors. We recently received instructions on a unit on the Potts Marsh Industrial Estate in Pevensey, a good small 1,500 sq.ft unit with a mezzanine, and that was only on the market for 2 weeks before we found a tenant and solicitors were instructed. There is a huge shortage of available industrial units of all sizes through the area. Despite the march of online shopping and the impact that is having on our High Streets there is also still good demand for small shops particularly those with innovative and unusual ideas where they will draw customers to them. We would therefore welcome hearing

from any occupiers or landlords who have got premises they want to move on. We offer an initial appraisal free of charge and are happy to come and meet anyone to discuss their ideas.’

£2.2M GIGABIT CAPABLE FULL FIBRE A

Mid Sussex District Council project to stimulate the market by making the development of gigabit-capable full fibre infrastructure more commercially viable has been funded by the Government. Thanks to the support of Sir Nicholas

Soames MP, the Council was able to arrange a visit and a presentation to The Rt Hon Matthew Hancock MP, now Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in October 2017.

The Council officially outlined its new approach to Fibre Broadband delivery earlier this year and has now successfully secured up to £2.2 million from the Government’s Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) fund.

With the need for faster connectivity expected to dramatically increase over the coming years, the Council aims to stimulate the market by making the deployment of gigabit-capable full fibre infrastructure more commercially viable. The Burgess Hill project, will see the public and private sector working together to install the gigabit-capable full fibre infrastructure in Burgess Hill as part of the broader regeneration and development plans.
