otherham has the fastest growing-city economy in Yorkshire and the eighth fastest in the UK, with the borough experiencing a 1.8% growth in its economy in the third quarter of 2017 (Source: Irwin Mitchell UK Powerhouse Study, Jan 2018). Rotherham has built on its historical manufacturing industry specialising in heavy steel, and now plays a key role in the manufacture of bespoke products for the aerospace, nuclear and transportation industries, driven by research and development in cutting-edge technologies, attracting investment from prestigious companies including Rolls Royce, Boeing and more recently McLaren Automotive. Integral to this success is the role played by the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation District (AMID); a 2,000+ acre Centre of Excellence for innovation-led advanced manufacturing in metals and materials located adjacent to the M1 motorway, home to the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) and the University of Sheffield’s Advanced

Manufacturing and Research Centre (AMRC). A range of sites are currently available, including design and build options.


Additional sites are also available in the borough, including 31East, a prime M1/M18 development site, Maltby Resource Park and Woodhouse Link at J31 of the M1. More well located and accessible sites are set to become available following adoption of the Council’s Local Plan, anticipated to take place summer 2018. Rotherham Town Centre is also experiencing a significant level of investment from both the public and private sectors. The transformation of the town centre was outlined in the Town Centre Masterplan, adopted by the Council in September 2017. A number of major schemes are currently

Progress is being made on the flagship scheme of the Town Centre Masterplan, the leisure-led mixed use development on Forge Island. This is anticipated to provide a cinema, hotel, restaurants and bars, as well as high quality business space, modern residential opportunities and attractive public realm. The development opportunity is currently out to tender, with a number of bids received. A preferred bidder is expected to be announced in August 2018.
