former Post Office building in Whitby Street is being refurbished and extended to turn it into a centre for creative business start-ups.

development of the only dedicated film and television studios in the region on the site of the former Hartlepool Council depot in Lynn Street, now part of the CCAD campus. It includes proposals for investment in high value equipment and emerging technology to provide 2,000 square metres of sound stage, green screen workshops, production offices, a VR studio and 3D printing technology.

A further £3m-plus is being ploughed into Church Street itself and Church Square. In Church Street, the focus is on enhancing the existing architecture and creating a more open, pedestrian-friendly area, and here new paved areas are taking shape. The Church Street and Church Square businesses are open as normal while all the work is ongoing.
Church Square is being pedestrianised and a large oval event space encircled by trees and seating is being created in front of Hartlepool Art Gallery. Tees Valley Combined Authority has been working alongside Hartlepool Borough Council to realise these projects and provide investment.
The full opening of the street is currently programmed for early August although this is weather-dependent.
