Newly commissioned A selection of shows recently greenlit in the UK as featured on televisual.com DRAMA


Journey to the Centre of the Earth Slim Film + Television and Federation Entertainment are in advanced development on a follow up to Around the World in 80 Days and also an adaptation of another Jules Verne classic Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Produced by Simon Crawford Collins for Slim Film + Television and Lionel Uzan for Federation, with Ashley Pharoah showrunning the adaptations.


The Whitstable Pearl - Acorn TV AMC Networks’ Acorn TV has commissioned a second season of the British crime drama Whitstable Pearl with Acorn Media Enterprises from Buccaneer Media. Øystein Karlsen will again be Executive Producer. Mike Walden is lead writer with Jon Jones as lead director. The producer of the series is Letitia Knight. Executive Producers are Tony Wood, Anna Burns and Richard Tulk-Hart for Buccaneer, Catherine Mackin for Acorn Media Enterprises, Øystein Karlsen and Julie Wassmer.


The Light in the Hall – S4C S4C has commissioned 6 x 60-minute minute psychological thriller The Light In The Hall / Y Golau co-produced by Duchess Street Productions and Triongl in association with APC Studios, and with the support of Welsh Government through Creative Wales.. The Light In The Hall / Y Golau is written and created by Regina Moriarty and directed by Andy Newbery and Chris Forster.


Ackley Bridge - Channel 4 Channel 4 has greenlit a fifth series of Ackley Bridge for 2022, with 10×30 new episodes commissioned from The Forge. Actor Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Bulletproof) will make his directing debut for five episodes with Reza Moradi (Teachers, Hetty Feather) directing the other five episodes. The Executive Producers are George Ormond, George Faber with lead writers and Executive Producers Suhayla El Bushra and Kim Revill. Jade Taylor is the Producer.

Code 404 - Sky Sky Original Code 404 will return for a third series on Sky Comedy . Code 404 is co-produced by Kudos and Water & Power Productions and is executive produced by Phil Temple, Tom Miller and Sam Myer. The series is written by Daniel Peak and directed by Al Campbell. The series was commissioned by Jon Mountague.


Witness No.3 – Channel 5 Channel 5 has commissioned a new four-part thriller, Witness No.3 (4 x 60”) produced by Story Films in association with All3Media International. Thomas Eccleshare has written the series, and Diarmuid Goggins is director. Alex Jones is Producer. The series was commissioned by Deputy Director of Programmes, ViacomCBS Networks UK, Seb Cardwell; Executive Producers are David Nath for Story Films and David Collins (Samson Films).


The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes - Synchronicity, Brazen Synchronicity Films is partnering with Brazen Productions to develop and produce a fictionalised mini-series based on the upcoming book The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes: the Transgender Trial that Threatened to Upend the British Establishment. Sukey Fisher to adapt.


Happy Valley – BBC1 Sally Wainwright’s Happy Valley will film its third and final series in 2022. It will be made by Lookout Point and was commissioned by Piers Wenger. Directed by Patrick Harkins and Fergus O’Brien, with Chris Clough as series producer, and Jessica Taylor as producer. Executive producers are Sally Wainwright and Sarah Lancashire, with Faith Penhale and Will Johnston for Lookout Point, and Ben Irving for the BBC.


The Last Kingdom - Netflix movie Carnival Films’ epic historical drama The Last Kingdom is to return for a two-hour movie, to


follow on from next year’s fifth and final season of the series. Produced by Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame and NBCUniversal International Studios’ Carnival Films. It will be written by Martha Hillier, produced by Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame and Mat Chaplin, and directed by Ed Bazalgette. Alexander Dreymon and Martha Hillier will serve as Executive Producers.


Champion - Mindseye Commercials production company MindsEye is developing Champion, which charts the true story of black British boxing sensation Len Johnson. Guy East is on board to executive produce the film. Winsome Pinnock is writing the screenplay. Champion is being produced by Hughie Phillips and Katie Mavroleon.


Beyond Nature - Lime Pictures, Gutsy Animations Lime Pictures and Finnish studio Gutsy Animations (Moominvalley) are co producing adult-targeted drama series Beyond Nature. Gutsy Animations has also attached writers Jessica Ruston, Kevin Rundle and Phoebe Éclair-Powell to the project. Beyond Nature is created by Gutsy Animations’ Chief Creative Officer and Founder, Marika Makaroff, and Paavo Westerberg (The Violin Player).


Professor T - ITV ITV has commissioned a second six-part series of crime drama Professor T produced by Eagle Eye Drama. Dries Vos returns to direct the second series. Executive Producers are Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino. The series is again written by Matt Baker and Malin-Sarah Gozin.
