THE C WORD But it’s the COVID fallout that is, of course, focussing minds. Back in February and March, post houses had to quickly pivot to remote working. For some it was seamless, for others, frantic, but most dealt with it surprisingly well. Post was able to continue working on the afterburn of productions that had finished shooting pre lockdown. The bite has come later as the production hiatus hit home and furloughing dwindles. At the time of writing, we’re into Lockdown 2 and there are still tough months ahead with redundancies and struggling businesses pretty much inevitable before restarted productions are ready for post in great numbers. All of this is perhaps obvious.


But as well as trying to survive in the here and now, post houses have been looking to the future too. We asked all the facilities in the survey how COVID has changed, and will

further change, their businesses, their working practices and the technology they use. And while much will get back to normal in the years ahead, still more seems to have transformed forever.

THE WORLD Each year, we send survey forms to post houses and ask them for


details of the services they provide, how they’ve found the last year, their turnover, size, breakdown of work, the post houses they most admire and so on. In normal years, this information is used to form the top 50. Due to the disruption of COVID, we have not asked for turnovers this year and have not ranked companies in the usual way. The Producer Poll and Peer Poll still stand however and the Top 50 itself is this year an A-Z ranking of the best in the business
