COST EFFECTIVE, EASY TO USE

Interview with Franco Casellato, Post Production Supervisor

Franco Casellato is one of Italy’s leading post production supervisors, with credits including My Brilliant Friend, Suburra and The New Pope.

Casellato says he uses Mnemonica on all the projects he works on to share dailies among its producers, directors, editors and crew.

Casellato is quick to stress the “affordable price” of Mnemonica compared to rival platforms.

Mnemonica, he explains, has also been created from scratch to be user friendly. “It’s for people who are not nerds. Even people who were not accustomed to using these kinds of platforms, now use it. It gives them all that they need on an app in their pocket.” Mnemonica is used right at the inception of Casellato’s projects. Casting sessions are uploaded and shared on the platform into a secure ‘room,’ where those with permission can view the tapes.

During production itself, selected dailies are uploaded into another room on Mnemonica so that invited producers, financiers and crew can then keep in touch with each day’s shooting progress.

This feature has come into its own during the Covid-19 pandemic, used by productions to ensure social distancing on set. Rather than 10-15 people crowding round a monitor in a video village, individuals can each watch the dailies on their own screens.

More customised ‘rooms’ are created during the edit process, with editors sharing cuts with individuals or teams who need to review progress.

Once a film or drama is complete, Casellato will use Mnemonica to share the project with people who need to see it – whether marketing teams, distributors or journalists. Rooms can also be opened at specific times, just like a screening in a theatre, and execs can monitor who has watched a project.

Casellato also uses Mnemonica as an archive. “I have a room with the final masters. Months after post, people will ask, “Can you give access to the show to a certain person.” So you just need an email, and you send the invite. It’s an archive, one that’s always available.”

A central hub for production Mnemonica is a cloud-based tool powered by Amazon Web Services, and acts as a central hub where a production company can easily backup and share a shoot’s digital assets among crew, producers and financiers, from casting tapes through to dailies and final edits for review & approval needs. Mnemonica, says CEO Piero Costantini, allows companies to “take back control of their libraries.”

A clean support for the whole production lifecycle Mnemonica is not only an archive and screening service, but features an integrated and cutting-edge file transfer tool to deliver unlimited-sized archives everywhere within its secure environment. Mnemonica is born on the desk of the producer but is the best companion of all the tech department starting from the post-supers.

Simple and intuitive Designed in consultation with producers, Mnemonica is highly intuitive to use, with a simple, clean and logical user interface. Content is easy to find, and just as straightforward to view and to share with others.

Mobile and secure Mnemonica’s security procedures have also won plaudits. Each user sets up their own double- authenticated personal account, allowing producers to know precisely who is screening what. Mnemonica provides a unique serial watermarking for content. Everything can be done through both the Mnemonica mobile app and any computer browser.

Cost effective with limitless users Most importantly, Mnemonica is significantly cheaper than many rivals. It currently offers two types of subscription – either a monthly contract for single projects or longer contracts for companies with longer term storage and sharing needs.

Uniquely, each of these subscriptions allow production companies to give access to as many users as they need, rather than a limited number like many rival media asset management tools.
