EXECUTIVE REPORT continued
Nationwide Platforms has partnered with virtual reality solutions developer, Serious Labs, to create simulators for powered access operator safety training.
In quite a different vein, Dr Jack Lewis, a neuroscientist, described how instinctive reactions in the brain can affect an individual’s perception and decision-making. The nervous system, he said, responded automatically to surprises or disappointments, and that sales techniques could be adapted to exploit this. In negotiations, revealing a product’s USP (unique selling point) at a later stage, for example, would arouse a greater positive reaction owing to its unexpected nature. Similarly, signals such as smiling or steady eye contact would register favourably with the other party’s subconscious.
Earlier in the Conference proceedings, HAE Chairman Brian Sherlock, Managing Director Vp plc - Brandon Hire & Hire Station, suggested that many people might not realise the breadth of services the Association now offered, from Terms & Conditions and representing the industry to official bodies, to offering technical guidance documents and the recently launched Theft & Fraud Group. He also said that a key theme of his Chairmanship would be to explore ways of ensuring the industry attracted new entrants and apprentices, and that the HAE is undertaking a survey of members to help determine its specific requirements.
