FIRE SUPPRESSION
cannon provides a 360° rotation to the position where a hotspot has been detected.
The highly targeted extinguishing system uses very little water/foam, limiting the amount of water/foam run off which has to be dealt from an extinguished fi re.
Detection before fi re breaks out
Some suppression systems might use in excess of 50,000 litres, whereas the Helios system would use around 4,000 litres. That is a 90% saving, and in most cases could be blended into the product afterwards or disposed of safely.
Once heat sources are extinguished, the camera continues to scan a designated area, and the cannon switches itself off - allowing an on-site team to drain and reset the system.
LWR’s Jim continued: “The Helios system does
one better than all other systems; it activates after detecting a heat spot, as opposed to triggering when a fi re has started.
“Once the system has been installed, it identifi es a heat source and extinguishes it without human intervention.
“Heat from working plant machinery can be ‘excluded,’ so as not to activate the system accidentally.”
Helios Systems Ltd Operations Manager, Adie Mason said: “The system has the capability to remember multiple scans, which provides the ability to monitor minute increases of surface temperature and produce a fully panoramic image of the facility, which is a key selling point of the PYROsmart system.
“If these temperatures rise above a pre-alarm trigger point, it informs the customer with enough time to assess the detected area.
“Should the temperature accelerate
quickly through an aggressive ignition source - for instance an L-ion Battery - the Rosenbauer fire suppression system will automatically extinguish and suppress a detected area, alerting the client via a text message.”
Camera zones cover entire 360° area
The fact the system detects a heat spot before it can manifest into a fi re is crucial for LWR, as the company warehouses in Fleetwood and Burnley are full of highly fl ammable waste-to-fuel product.
Jim anticipates company insurance premiums dropping dramatically.
He added: “We have taken the bulk of fire risk away from our building, and we believe it will pay for itself on the reduced insurance premium - we look at the system as a long-term investment, and a box that has been ticked.”
