Exercise is not just for sportsmen and fitness fanatics. In today's world just about everyone could benefit from a little more exercise.


The armchair sports fan can acquire an enormous amount of knowledge about his/her favourite sport, while never actually taking part. But he (or she) shouldn't need too much motivation to get out of the chair and get some exercise even if he/she will never be another Cristiano Ronaldo or Jessica Ennis-Hill.


Others with physical or mental problems might find it exercising more to get motivated and take that first step in exercising more. It's not necessary to become superfit or spend hours lifting weights to benefit from more exercise.


As the near-impossible feats of ParaOlympians show, everyone can take part in some kind of sport but you need to be fit to make a mark and that means exercise.

That should provide some motivation for those of us who do not get much more exercise than getting out of a chair or getting into a car.

We see all types of people who need some professional guidance on what they should do to meet their exercise goals, whether it is overcoming an injury, coping with a disability or improving a medical condition. Clients are gradually and safely introduced to more exercise, and are often amazed at how much benefit they gain from even a small amount of exercise.


Many people are referred to the scheme by their doctor, psychiatrist or other health professional, because evidence shows that exercise can help just about anyone.
