Playcenter Brazil The Playcenter Park ran for four decades on a plot of 85,000 square meters, and was a traditional place of entertainment of in Sao Paulo, the capital of Brazil. Among its main attractions were the cable car, Waimea, Enterprise and Sputnik, as well as shows like the Nights of Terror and Monga, the monkey woman. Playcenter closed its doors in 2012, as a result of a crisis. The company survived thanks to Playland, a business that manages electronic gambling spaces in four shopping centers in the city. Like the Phoenix, it has been reborn from its ashes, located in the Aricanduva shopping center in the eastern part of the city, in a space with a capacity of 5,000 visitors. Now named Playcenter Family, it has been turned into a
family entertainment centre (FEC), with 120 games aimed at visitors between 4 and 14 years old, most of which are video games and simulators.
FEBRUARY 2018 It also has ten attractions for older children and even for
parents. The most outstanding is the Clip ‘n Climb, a complex with eight climbing walls of 10 meters in height, and Disko, a circular platform that rotates on its own axis while sliding on rails and performing pendular movements. For those who yearn for the past, Playcenter Family offers alternatives similar to those of its predecessor, such as the Carousel and the Pirate Ship, the children’s version of the Viking Boat.
Playcenter Family stands out as a differential the comfort
and safety of operations in shopping centres, based on the experience with the Playlands, added to the know-how of the person who built the Playcenter, without a doubt the most loved and remembered park in Brazil. For the founder of the Playcenter Group Marcelo Gutglas, in addition to an excellent attraction for families, Playcenter Family also offers shopping centre entrepreneurs a new way to attract the public. “The FECs are a trend towards that market, whose axis of attraction of visitors is no longer based on only stores – it is based on visitor experience,” said the businessman. Even before the inauguration in January 2018, the Playcenter
group announced an expansion plan for this business model. The idea is to take the format to shopping centers in several areas of Sao Paulo, with an approximate investment of US $6 million in each one. “Our intention is to open one per year from now on,” added businessman Marcelo Gutglas, CEO and founder of Playcenter. Álvaro Mendes Pereira, president of the Association of Businesses of Amusement Parks of Brazil (ADIBRA), affirmed that it is an expanding sector and indicated that, “Thanks to the security conditions, climate-controlled environment, ease of parking and proximity to other services we expect the emergence of more attractions of this kind in the city. “ They have not ruled out, however, the possibility of the original Playcenter returning in its original version of outdoor mega-park. The executives of the group are looking for land of 60,000 square meters in Sao Paulo to build a new park after 2020.
