Exhilaration? More likely

panic. Restrained at the end of a row of eight seats, there is no track, nothing below your feet and three seconds of motionless hang time to look straight down to the creek far below. The eerie silence of dangling that far from the ground is broken by the frantic screams of the riders. That’s the unique thrill of Yukon Striker.

North American editor, Paul Ruben reports

longest dive roller coaster. From Bolliger & Mabillard, Yukon Striker is the showpiece attraction in the fully immersive area Frontier Canada, themed to the Klondike Gold Rush. Conceived as part of the original plan for Canada’s Wonderland that was to be devoted to Canada’s history, Frontier Canada is now finally realised 38 years after the park’s opening.

Completely different “We’re always looking for new, exciting attractions to provide the best entertainment experience for our guests,” explained Norm Pirtovshek, Canada’s Wonderland general manager, “returning passholders and new visitors alike. Yukon Striker, with its world titles and amazing ride experience, certainly does that. It’s also the showpiece of our new attraction area, Frontier Canada, which is themed to the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 1890s in the Yukon. It was meant to be one of the five original themed sections

when the park opened in 1981 but never came to be. Yukon Striker’s arrival allowed us the opportunity to bring back the original concept for that themed area.” “The ride on Yukon Striker is absolutely breathtaking,”

asserts Pirtovshek. Yukon Striker’s 3,625 feet (1,105 m) of steel track soars through four dynamic inversions above guests. At its summit, you’ll experience three seconds of complete exhilaration as you stare directly down 245 feet (75 m) at 90º into an underwater tunnel.” “We’re always looking to take the guest experience

to the next level and offer them something unique that they can’t get anywhere else,” elaborates Pirtovshek. “Yukon Striker, as the world’s longest, tallest and fastest dive coaster does just that. It’s our 17th roller coaster in the park, but is a completely different ride experience due to its exhilarating 90º drop into an underwater tunnel. The trains are floorless, so your legs dangle over open air, and riders are held over the summit for three seconds before dropping down and soaring through four inversions, including the only 360º loop for a dive coaster.”
