3. Syncing all the senses The third rule of creating a successful dark ride is syncing what you see in the scenery, elaborate show sets, integrated media content and what the client feels, hears or even smells in the vehicle. “ A dark ride is a theatrical experience and should be considered as such,” says Simeon. “Music plays a very important role as well. The better the syncing of the senses the more effective the ride experience.” “We are excited to see that more parks are showing

interest in dark rides,” says Robin van der Want, project director at Jora Vision.“ These experiences give parks the opportunity to tell their own unique story and offer an attraction that can be experienced by the entire family together. A great example is “Snorri Touren”, one of our most recent dark ride projects. This dark ride is based on the story of Rulantica, developed by the design team of Mack Solutions. When Mack Solutions reached out to us about creating a dark ride based on this story, we were very excited. Not only did we get the chance to work together with the creative talents of Mack Solutions, Mack Animation and Mack Rides, but we were given the trust to translate their creative vision into a full concept design and execute the full project from schematic design up to the

production of show sets. We can’t wait to experience this dark ride later this year!”

Dark Rides making a splash! In an exciting development for dynamic media attractions specialist Simworx, the company has partnered with water ride specialist Interlink to create a brand-new ride concept which is due to open imminently in Indonesia. The new Immersive Superflume combines a motion base

and immersive screens with a flume ride for what is, says the company, a totally unique, world first experience. Utilising 16-seater boats and a conveyor loading system on

the attraction, riders will leave the loading/unloading station and sail through a dinosaur themed area before entering an Immersive Tunnel section where their boat will stop and huge immersive screens on either side of them will come to life to provide a dinosaur adventure element. Movement of the boats in synch with the action on the film/visuals will also be incorporated to add further to the experience. Having escaped the dinosaurs, the ride will then continue

through another dinosaur themed section before entering a 12m vertical lift featuring further theming and various special effects. On exiting from the top of the lift, riders will plunge into the final splash pool before heading back along another section of the ride to the station. Large screens accommodating 3D, 4K projection have

been used in combination with an audio system to place riders at the centre of the action. “The Immersive Superflume is another exciting and highly
