Ghana Inaugurates New Governing
Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has inaugurated an 11-member governing board for the country’s Gaming Commission, tasked with strengthening regulation and aligning policies with global best practices.
The board, chaired by Lawyer James Enu, includes members Renee Aku Sitsofe Morhe, Bandim Abed-Nego Azumah, Sedem Kweku Afenyo, MP Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo, Professor Kobby
Mensah, Solomon Tetteh Mensah, ACP Dr Dinam Kwasi Wisdom Zoiku, Dela Kemevor, Mrs Rosemary Parker, and a Finance Ministry representative yet to be nominated. Minister Muntaka urged the board to review licensing policies under the Gaming
Act, noting that current laws “do not address the evolving trends in the gaming industry, with the world being driven to artificial intelligence.”
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise the sector, including a draft Legislative Instrument (LI) under review at the Attorney General’s office and the Commission’s expansion with new offices nationwide. Challenges such as illegal operators, underage gambling, and responsible gaming remain
priorities for the regulator. The Minister pledged his full support to ensure a “robust, modern, and sustainable gaming industry,” while Chairman Enu promised to provide strong oversight and deliver on the confidence placed in the new board.
