Casino industry unites to deliver a gambling apprenticeship programme

Those of you who read our articles in Casino International or engage with our work will know that we are passionate about building great careers in gambling, an industry that we are very proud to work in. We strongly believe that any industry initiative whether it be commercial, regulatory or focussed on safer gambling can only delivered with good people in place. Whilst many of us found ourselves here by accident, we find ourselves staying and working in a genuine meritocracy where people with all sorts of backgrounds and qualifications can progress. Just ask yourselves how many of you in senior roles started on the casino floor or in other entry level roles? I know I did and it is an inspiring message to people in those roles now who aspire to move up in the world that they could play a pivotal part in the future sustainability of our industry. Did you know that in England any organisation with an annual wage bill in
excess of £3million contributes to a national apprenticeship levy that funds programmes in a multitude of industries, offers financial incentives to businesses, provides on the job training for its beneficiaries and supports the growth of the workforce of the future. Sounds great, right? But what about the gambling industry? What about a sector that provides 10’s of thousands of jobs in the UK and contributes billions of pounds to the economy? The truth is that there isn’t really anything available. There are hospitality and catering apprenticeships for venues which offer food and drinks but they are very much focused at the restaurant or catering
