Focus on Media & Ink Epson Epson’s UltraChrome RS resin ink

Attention turns to ink choice As interest grows in sourcing sustainable, environmentally responsible products, attention is turning to ink choice. The focus is intensifying on the ability to combine high quality performance, consistency and versatility with recyclability and reduced waste.

Central to most of these requirements is an ink that ensures the quick and

fl exible production of print that can be readily recycled and composted. This is where resin inks come in.

Choosing resin ink supports a responsible approach to print production which is fundamental to any strategic, investment or service delivery decision operations are making today. Fast drying, water-based, with low volatile organic compound (VOC) levels, the vibrant inks use resins to bind the other ink ingredients together to form a fi lm that secures the ink to the printed surface. They deliver resilience, fl exibility, and scruff resistance.

With Epson’s UltraChrome RS resin ink, that works with the SureColor SC-R Series of wide format printers, it is possible to meet the demand for quality, productivity, reliability, stable colour performance and environmentally friendly output. Created as a complementary ink technology to Epson’s range of commercial inks, it was developed in tandem with Epson’s renowned print head expertise to deliver elevated levels of print performance and an expanded choice of applications, all from a

water-based ink. As it is completely water-based and has signifi cantly lower curing temperatures, UltraChrome RS resin ink offers sustainable solutions to customers and brands. The eco-friendly and odourless prints can be used in sensitive environments such as schools and hospitals. In addition, printed output on non-PVC media can be fully recycled. It makes picking the sustainable choice easy.

www.epson.co.uk A wide format solution that utilises

thermal print head technology Until recently it was presumed that dye sublimation was only be possible with piezo print head technology. However, HP has debunked that opinion and reinvented dye sub by introducing the world to Stitch – the wide format sublimation solution that utilises thermal print head technology. Thanks to HP’s specially formulated ink PSPs can now experience the benefi ts of end user changeable heads, 1200dpi native resolution and exceptionally rich colours when printing dye sublimation. The inks are available in either 775ml cartridges, 3-litre or 10-litre boxes – depending on which type of HP Stitch printer you are operating. Users operating the HP Stitch S500 or S1000 can also change ink supplies while the machine is in operation, meaning less downtime and increased productivity.

introduced to worldwide market Mimaki Engineering has launched its carton ink cartridges to the global market. This revolutionary move replaces traditional plastic cartridges with an environmentally friendly paper alternative, marking a signifi cant stride towards sustainability in the printing industry.

The carton ink cartridge

Designed for use in Mimaki’s eco-solvent printers, these cartridges retain exceptional performance while signifi cantly reducing environmental impact. By transitioning from plastic to paper, Mimaki has achieved a remarkable 68% reduction in plastic usage per cartridge. This innovative approach is projected to eliminate approximately 44 tonnes of plastic and 65 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, underscoring Mimaki’s commitment to a greener future.

Moreover, the lighter weight of carton ink cartridges translates to an estimated eight tonne reduction in CO2 emissions during transportation, further contributing to a decarbonised society.
