goals by adding carbon footprint reduction to their Cloud migration and IT modernisation planning. Ancoris GreenLab helps organisations understand actions they can take to contribute to their sustainability goals, by providing insight into the carbon impact of migrating to the Cloud from on-premise and hosted IT deployments. We created GreenLab to provide a high-level migration plan and financial business case, so organisations can understand the full execution roadmap and tangible carbon footprint reduction measures for Cloud migration.”
What else can be done to reduce our carbon footprint that the channel can assist with? Paul Thompson, Consenna: “Sustainability in the channel isn’t a tick-box exercise that we can complete and move on from. Tere will always be more that can be done, and we must never allow ourselves or those we work with as customers or partners to rest on our laurels as was the case for so long.
Matt Frank, Ancoris: “Similarly to many other businesses in the channel, we are working with our partners to improve our collective impact on the environment and reduce our carbon footprint, which will help us to meet our ESG goals and consumers’ growing expectations in the longer term. By exploring new partnerships and alliances, the channel will be able to evaluate and measure collectively shared initiatives that will unlock value and accelerate the move to Net Zero. Tis collaboration will drive a more positive impact than if we acted alone, enabling the whole channel industry to drive diversity, sustainability and CSR efforts on a bigger scale.”
Can you offer any advice on how companies should begin planning their route to being carbon neutral? Paul Thompson, Consenna: “Tere is an enormous wealth of intelligence, guidance, support and case studies of those who’ve ‘been there and done that’ out there, much of which can be accessed via our Carbon platform. First off though, a desire and curiosity to find out more is key – you can’t simply pay lip service to becoming carbon neutral and the journey will take time and commitment. “Embedding sustainability values into a business’s DNA is vital and
these values must be shared across every level of the business.” Matt Frank, Ancoris: “Similarly to many other businesses in the

Matt Frank, Ancoris: “It’s no longer possible for organisations in the channel to overlook their obligations to society, and not implement sustainability best practices. Consumers, partners and stakeholders are committing to sustainable and ecologically positive behaviour and expect businesses in the sector to do the same. Organisations need to not only consider what they can do, but when and what to plan, in their efforts toward a more sustainable IT landscape. For many, Cloud migration or further Cloud adoption is the fastest and best route to get to fully carbon-neutral IT operations. Being Cloud- based means organisations use less power and help them reduce their carbon emissions. Businesses operating in the Cloud will consume around 77% fewer servers, and lower their reliance on expensive and ecologically harmful on-premise or hosted data centres.”
Where is the greatest shortfall or areas that need addressing most within the channel? Paul Thompson, Consenna: “Te availability of training on IT sustainability is still below where it needs to be and responsibility for sourcing and delivering this must sit with senior leadership teams. Employees look to their leaders for the provision of training, and this should be no less the case when it comes to sustainability. “IT reseller salespeople know how important this topic is and many
are naturally passionate about it – indeed, it’s becoming almost zeitgeist amongst many. However, the majority remain largely untrained (at least formally) on the most important topics and the associated jargon and that is, in part, why we created Carbon.”
Matt Frank, Ancoris: “If you were to ask a channel business leader, IT executive or sales manager what it means for an organisation to be sustainable, you would probably receive a few different answers. It’s clear that there is no single definition of sustainability and with this oſten comes a lack of accountability. In today’s market, channel businesses can no longer claim to be sustainable but instead, they need to provide hard evidence that their operations are not damaging the environment. Moving forward, it’s vital for businesses throughout the channel to work together in the drive to Net Zero by considering who they partner with, how they provide their technology solutions and what initiatives they have in place to guide sustainability changes.
