Time, patience and risks. All elements of whether something might be successful or not. Sometimes there’s a recipe to follow, other times you’ve got to throw caution to the wind. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my time as editor, it’s that, like many industries, we’re resilient. I can’t comment on other sectors, but I’d say we’re probably quite different. We’re growing, but in many ways, we’ve managed to maintain a largely community feel. Community. Perhaps more important now than ever. Something we should

all strive to build. That’s my mission here, at least in part. BikeBiz exists for the industry. It’s a platform for you. Sometimes we get things very right, and we’ll hold our hands up if we get something wrong. Some things take time to build, but it’s starting that counts. Taking risks is scary, especially if you have no idea of the outcome. Better to go in prepared, but sometimes that’s not an option. As I think about 2026, which seems to be racing ever closer, I wonder what the cycling industry will look like. Whilst there’s been positive shoots, and I know it’s been repeated, we’re not quite out of the woods yet. But getting to a place where everything feels ‘good’ again is a very individual journey. What’s good for you might not be for others. Each of us is working towards a goal, sometimes many at once. The point, if there is one, is that you can only do so much. Especially alone. Having said that, you’ll know your strengths, so don’t be afraid to double down. But on the flip side, don’t be afraid to take a risk once in a while.
