Shopfloor TAKE A TOWN
Lakeland, High Street

This store is located in the busy shopping city centre, and is sandwiched between two other national retailers, Costa Coffee and Tesco. My sister and friends kept on telling me about how amazing air fryers are, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about. Inside the store, I started browsing the air fryer display, which featured products from Lakeland and Ninja. Kerry approached me and asked if I needed any help. I explained what I was looking for and, before mentioning any products, she showed me an air fryer conversion chart, which showed how much quicker air fryers can be over traditional ovens.

Kerry was able to present the product well, but she did not close the sale. The store was well presented, inside and out.

John Lewis + Partners, Sidwell Street
The department store operator opened its first flexible format shops in the city; it opened on October 12, 2012. I was looking for a big TV for my newly renovated house. Inside the store, I took the escalator to the lower ground floor.
As I walked around the department, a couple of TVs looked suitable. The first TV was a 65in model from Sony (K65XR80U), priced at £1,899. The informative price ticket detailed that the TV features 50W Dolby Audio, YouView, four HDMI inputs, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit & Google Assistant enabled, and a five-year guarantee. The price ticket also referenced that
Protect+, which Protect Plus has been created exclusively for John Lewis + Partners by Domestic & General, would cost £300 for five years of cover or £7.24/month. The second TV was a 65in model from LG (OLED65C54LA), priced at £2,299. The TV features 40W Al Voice Remastering, Freesat, three USBs, and a five-year guarantee included; Protect+ would cost £500 for five years of cover or £11.24/month.

Two members of staff were in the department, but there was no approach. The TV department looked great.
Lewis’s, Hawkins Way, Crediton
Located on Lords Meadow Industrial Estate, this is a family-run business, established in 1969.
Moving to the area, I was looking for a new washing machine. Inside the store, I could not see any staff, so I browsed the washing machine display. After about three minutes, Nigel appeared and asked if I needed any help. He asked about how many people are in my household and I said that I live with my wife and two kids and I was looking for a washing machine that was economical
run, irrespective of how much it costs. He recommended a 9kg Samsung model (WW90CGC04DABEU), which was priced at £399.99.

After waiting for a staff member to appear, Nigel gave a very brief overview. The store was well presented outside, but a little untidy inside.
Nigel said that the 1,400rpm spin model featured a ‘Wi-Fi-enabled add laundry function’.
Nigel said that he could deliver the new washing machine for me, which would cost £25, and if I wanted an old appliance taken away that would cost an extra £20.
Currys, Rydon Lane Retail Park, Digby Drive
This store is located at the end of a retail park and its nearest neighbour is Pets at Home. After looking for a TV for my newly renovated house, I now wanted a signature American-style fridge-freezer to wow dinner party guests. Inside the store, I headed to the refrigeration
department where lots of customers were looking at different fridges, but there were no staff in the vicinity. There were 24 American-style fridge-freezers on display from manufacturers including Haier, Hisense, Kenwood, LG, Logik and Samsung. In terms of the price range, a Logik model (LSSBSS23) was priced at £499, while an LG model (InstaView GSXE91EVAD) was priced at £2,099. In the refrigeration department, a POS poster explained to customers how to choose their American-style
fridge-freezer, which
included topics including getting the right size, configuration, capacity and energy efficiency. On each

Having the POS around the store is great – and I’ve added a point in the store presentation section for that. However, POS shouldn’t replace salespeople. The store was well presented.
American-style fridge-freezer, further POS detailed how the retailer would deliver a new appliance, get it setup, and recycle an old one, from £90.
