Far right: Liebherr’s BioFresh drawers

CapDos capsule packaging can be recycled to help reduce waste. Meanwhile, the German manufacturer’s TEL785 WP 9kg EcoSpeed + Steam Tumble Dryer is rated A+++ and offers 12 versatile programmes, including the new PowerFresh feature to freshen up dry clothes, bedding and towels as well as smoothing the fabrics to reduce ironing time. Plus, its new SilenceDrum technology makes this model ideal for open plan homes.

Refrigeration “At Liebherr, our primary ambition is to improve sustainability across all facets of the company and ultimately participate in a circular economy,” Tim Hutchinson, Refrigeration UK Divisional Manager at Liebherr, explains to ERT. “We are constantly looking for ways to minimise our environmental impact and support the reduction of food waste

through industry-leading freshness innovation. “We are proud to offer one of the largest ranges of A-rated appliances in the UK, and this year we’re excited to be expanding that range further.” This includes the launch of Liebherr’s new ICBa 5123 model coming in May, which is said to be the world’s first fully-integrated fridge- freezer with an A rating.

“This is a significant milestone for not only Liebherr, but the industry, setting a new standard for what it means to create energy efficient appliances,” says Mr Hutchinson. In 2023, Liebherr launched its BluRoX technology, which saw the introduction of the first freezer that can be fully recycled at the end of its lifetime. Rather than using conventional foam elements, the unique recyclable vacuum perlite technology enables the re-use of all components.

Food waste also has a huge impact on the

environment, and one of the best ways to make food last longer is to invest in advanced refrigeration technology. There are a variety of solutions available from Liebherr; one such solution is BioFresh (pictured top right), which keeps food just above zero degrees and with the perfect humidity level. Or there’s HydroBreeze – a fine, cold mist that covers fruit and vegetables like a protective balm, ensuring crisp freshness and improved structure.

“We have applied induction technology to our range cooker and 60cm mini-range cooker collections,” explains Sarah Whitfield, Product Manager at Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, “all of which are A-energy rated.

“In fact, in our Stoves Richmond range cooker collection we offer a choice of three different induction hobs. We have five zone

Miele offers a very similar refrigeration feature in its K7000 built-in collection; the KFN 7795 D model boasts new PerfectFresh Active technology, which spritzes a fine mist waterfall onto the contents of the crisper drawer to keep produce fresh for up to five times’ longer.

Miele’s PerfectFresh technology Cooking

Household budgets remain under pressure for many families and so consumers look for better support in how to use their appliances to make further cost and energy savings. Manufacturers can support customers by guiding them on how to get the most out of the products with recipes and time- and cost-saving meal ideas. When it comes to product technology, induction is the most prominent eco-friendly technology and something that Stoves and Belling have championed for a number of years. The safer, smarter, faster and greener benefits it offers make it a very cost-efficient way of cooking.

rotary or touch control induction hobs, with bridgeable zones, and on the Richmond Deluxe 100 and 110cm we have the unique FreedomFLEX true zoneless induction system [pictured below left] – a first for range cookers. Ms Whitfield continues: “The FreedomFlex system removes the restrictions that static rings cause, adding flexibility and freedom to place up to six pans anywhere on the single, full-surface cooking area.” Miele’s Mr Hopper agrees, saying that induction hob technology minimises heat loss and speeds up cooking. The KMDA7876 Matt Black Induction Hob with Integrated Extraction not only features intuitive DirectSelection Plus controls for precise heat adjustment, but it also comes with two extra-large PowerFlex zones to accommodate a casserole dish or griddle pan. It automatically detects the size of cookware for optimal heat distribution, allowing up to five cooking zones to operate simultaneously. “While all appliances are designed to make life easier for the consumer, they are not all made equal,” adds Mr Hopper. “For example, we have reduced the energy consumption of our ovens by 49 per cent in the past 20 years without compromising on performance; they use only the optimum amount of heat – and therefore energy – for the best results.” With all these product features available today, customers can really consider their impact on the environment when making a purchase – they often just need a steer in the right direction from a qualified and knowledgeable retailer. You have the power to help make a change!
