THANKS TO OUR SUSTAINABILITY P

“Over the last 20 years AMDEA members have achieved vast reductions in the domestic energy and water consumption of appliances through dramatic improvements in eco-friendly design and new technologies. “Behind these modern, high-efficiency appliances also lies industry eco-commitments that scrutinise every phase of operations, seeking to continuously reduce emissions, extend product lifespan and make repairs easy. This helps to conserve resources through giving used appliances a second life and recycling materials once the machine is finally beyond repair.

“It is with great optimism that we should look to the future, as the actions of the ‘here and now’ unwind our most recent consumption behaviours. We are thinking smarter, industry is smarter, and the electronics industry is at the forefront of this. New product innovations are communicated well, moulding consumer behaviours so they make better choices, on a more consistent basis. “The Appliance Recycling Group plays a part, underpinning infrastructure that supports this fantastic industry – supporting the ERT Awards sustainability initiative is a platform for awareness, whilst riding on the continued momentum of sustainability. “We are also keen to distinguish those social, economic and

environmental outcomes, with many households in the UK living in appliance poverty. This is no threat to retail, this area of the market cannot afford to replace a broken cooker, but must choose take- away food as a perpetual series of short-term fixes (as an example) – making the price of living even higher for societies most vulnerable. “Last year, in the wake of further legislative reform, we saw a step up of smaller independent retailers coming into mainstream recycling solutions. One of the key achievements since our involvement with

the ERT Awards has been that all electrical retailers, from the tips of Cornwall to the heights of Scotland, have the same commercial platform to responsibly recycle old electronics – a key milestone for our business, and for industry. “Our independent retailer push, which has been supported by key

buying groups, has delivered more waste appliances into our recycling facilities. This has given rise to more opportunity to repair and reuse equipment – with more than £1 million of this stock being donated into communities across the UK over the coming years.”

“At Electrolux, we believe it is vital that awards and events demonstrate commitment to sustainable practices, which is why we are proud to be a Sustainability Partner for the ERT Awards for the second year in a row! “As a supplier, we recognise our growing responsibility to meet sustainability goals and ensure we continue providing independent electrical retailers with our most energy-efficient appliances. “We achieved our first science-based climate target three years ahead of schedule, and recently had our second science-based climate target approved, as we continue our journey to net zero. This second target aims to reduce our direct and indirect carbon emissions resulting from its operations (scope 1 and 2) by 85 per cent and

“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, from our operations and manufacturing processes to our innovative product design. We were absolutely delighted to win the ‘Best Manufacturer/Supplier Sustainability Initiative’ at the ERT Awards last year – for our Don’t Wash Your Clothes campaign (DWYC)! We were also recognised for our AEG EcoLine selection of appliances in the same category, which further validates our commitment to bringing energy-saving solutions to the end consumer.”
