features of the Bertazzoni product portfolio and we built on this with a number of concept looks for our built-in ovens at Salone Del Mobile in April. Feedback received at the show will help us decide which models to take forward. “Interestingly, our black and carbonio finishes account for half of all sales across its freestanding and built-in cooking products. Ian Johnstone, Head of Design at GDHA,

agrees. He explains that there is a strong trend for matte black and graphite grey finishes right now. Coupled with layered dark hues and a variety of textures, from sleek gloss to dense matte finishes across the kitchen area, this can inspire a luxe sense of refinement. Looking ahead, he also agrees

soft-grey painted glass in the ovens features a subtle metallic sprinkle,

which gives it a rich, layered effect and it’s designed to react differently to different light.

Combining old and new Bertazzoni kitchen appliances are handmade in the ‘gastronomic capital’ of Northern Italy and the brand offers four product collections. The Professional Series has sleek and modern finishes with distinctive style features including elegant knobs and handles; the Master Series brings commercial kitchen-inspired style, while the Modern Series is characterised by its fresh, contemporary elegance. The Heritage Series is more of a ‘classic’ aesthetic combining old and new, inspired by the original Bertazzoni wood-burning stoves dating back to the 1800’s. Features including trims and finials have been retained throughout product iterations right up to the most recent changes in 2022, which was the brand’s 140th anniversary year.

Maurizio Severgnini, Managing Director

of Bertazzoni UK and Ireland, comments: “Colours and finishes are one of the stand-out

with Smeg’s Mr Davies that kitchen designs will support the wellness narratives with calming colours and “natural neutrals,” he says. In terms of a retail environment, Mr Johnstone believes that customisation could be key to clinching a sale… “Flexibility to offer bespoke solutions is expected by consumers nowadays, and we can support consumers to add their own aesthetic embellishment via handles, dials and other features.” GDHA’s two brands, Belling and Stoves, offer traditional range cooker collections, such as the Stoves Richmond and Belling Farmhouse, as well as a contemporary aesthetic with the Belling Cookcentre, using high gloss and matte textures accented by combined chromium and steel metallics.

Michael White, Channel Manager – Electrical Retail Independents at Electrolux, adds that sleek black finishes have become a prominent trend in the kitchen – something reflected in AEG’s Matt Black range. Later this year, AEG is launching its brand new SaphirMatt Induction Hob, developed with scratch-resistant glass in response to consumer research that revealed scratches and cleaning are people’s biggest pain points.

“The sleek matte black finish reflects our commitment to blending functionality and style in the home,” Mr White goes on. “The hob represents the key design trends within the market, while also boasting an energy rating of A+.” Away from colours and finishes, functionality and ease of use is still a key requirement for consumers when it comes to appliances. Touch screen panels are becoming increasingly popular; they not only offer a more modern look but provide a smarter user experience allowing for precise control where users can simply tap or swipe.

Vintage kitchen essentials Italian SDA brand, Ariete, part of the De’Longhi group and distributed in the UK by Bluestem Group, also offers high-tech LED displays and touch controls across its range of SDA. The Vintage portfolio includes breakfast essentials like kettles and toasters, but coffee lovers are also catered for with a choice of machines; the 12 Cup Drip Coffee Machine boasts a simple LCD control panel as well as 24-hour timer and warming plate, so users can wake up to the smell of freshly-brewed coffee! Meanwhile, the 15 Bar Espresso Machine features a vintage-inspired pressure gauge and built-in steamer wand for the perfect cappuccino. Kneading dough for a delicious loaf of bread is made simple with Ariete’s Vintage Stand Mixer, which utilises planetary motion to fully incorporate all ingredients in no time. Accessories include a whisk, dough hook and beaters. >>
