Design has always been a strong suite of digital radio specialist Pure, and its newly- launched Classic Series will have fashionistas hankering after an audio upgrade. The new line comprises three upgraded models – Classic H4, Classic C-D6 and Classic Stereo (the latter pictured above) – each available in Coffee Black Walnut or White Cream wood finishes.

Expect interest in this to be high. Pure’s DAB+ radio has shipped over one million units to date. The Bluetooth-enabled Classic H4 has a 10W output and 40 presets to store DAB+ and FM stations. The C-D6 adds a CD player to the mix and ups power output to 2x 15w.

Supercar status

Collaborations between technology companies and lifestyle brands are also opening the doors to fresh new design ideas… Legendary Japanese Hi-Fi outfit, Technics, has partnered with Automobili Lamborghini for a special edition of its direct drive turntable (above). Customised with Lamborghini’s distinctive Y-shape pattern and available in Lambo Orange, Green and Yellow liveries, it’s based on the SL-1200MK7/ SL-1210MK7 DJ models. The turntable’s feature specification will be familiar to some; the deck features all the usual DJ wizardry, including pitch control and reverse play. High end Hi-Fi and sports cars seem natural bedfellows, linked not only by shared values of uncompromising design and passion, but a visceral appreciation of sound as well. So it makes sense that buyers of the Lamborghini deck will also get an exclusive vinyl record

featuring the engine and driving sounds of six different Lambo V12-engine sports cars, recorded especially for the collaboration! Rather cutely, the vinyl is a picture disc illustrating the tire of the new Lamborghini Revuelto – so you can watch the wheel spin as the engine sounds roar. Elsewhere, Pro-Ject Audio has given its popular turntable range a design makeover, with a Dark Side of the Moon edition, a celebration of the classic Pink Floyd album, released as part of the recording’s 50th anniversary. The deck echoes the album’s iconic cover art, a prism refracting a beam of light into a rainbow spectrum, which was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and illustrated by George Hardie. The three-cornered platter on the turntable mirrors prism cover. The tech specs of the Dark Side of the Moon

turntable are certain to delight any prog rock fan. It comes with an 8.6-inch acrylic and black aluminium low-resonance tonearm, equipped with spring anti-skating, and Pick it PRO Special Edition cartridge, tuned for this specific turntable. The belt-drive offers two speeds, 33 and 45 rpm, with electronic speed control. Of course collaborations aren’t always the exclusive preserve of the high end. Headphone specialist Final Audio has a range of True Wireless earbuds produced in association with popular Japanese anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. There are actually three iterations of this

The Neon Genesis Evangelion ear buds

earbud to choose from, each colour-coded to one of the giant robots in the series. The result is a very distinctive bud, with authentic anime detailing. What’s more, the Evangelion theme extends to in-ear voice guidance, which is provided by Nagasawa Miki, a voice actor from the series. Users can even toggle between original Japanese or English commands. I think it’s fair to say, never underestimate the ability of good design to surprise and delight!
