brands Weeebuyanyappliance. com, The Appliance Recycling Group and newly launching collectmyelectricals.co.uk. At a time where the WEEE Regulations last came around for reform (2014), a then quirky recycling initiative (weeebuyanyappliance.com) brought value to the forefront of WEEE Recycling, at a time where notable change was happening in the UK producer responsibility market. Another reform, and another idea from the organisations that coined ‘cash for trash’, a little ahead of its time. As we fast fast-forward to 2024, hopes are high for an Uber-esc convenient recycling solution, that will raise further awareness of the need to responsibly recycle e-waste. Over the years, the objectives of the organisation have remained the same; to increase recycling convenience, and reusability of second hand, discarded electricals, as the primary form of waste treatment. The company has grown significantly since its inception, and has now become a market leader in the preparing

he Appliance Recycling Group (ARG) has been collecting, reusing, and recycling domestic appliances for more than 10 years, under

its

for reuse, of major domestic appliances, reusing and selling more than 1,200 appliance per week, across five sites, achieving 20% market share, according to 2023 DEFRA statistics. Through its subscription to third party

quality standards (WEEELABEX CENELEC EN50614 and EN50625-4), ARGs growth had accelerated by the support of responsible retailers, and manufacturers, who have found clarity in the ARG ability to track appliances, by serial number, even in a second life. This investment into tracking and traceability, saw ARG awarded the prestigious reuse innovation award, at the National Recycling Awards 2023. The wider strategy for the business, is not solely ‘profit driven’ with the fabric of giving, having woven into the journey for the organisation. Its remanufacturing operation operates a strict ‘sell appliances within 28 days of re-production, or we give it away’ approach. This quirky initiative has kept its sales team on their toes, and the appliances turning over in a fast-paced repair and refurbishment operation, with no less than £130,000 worth of finished goods donated to charities and worthy causes, in 2023 alone.

ARG has people and product at its core, as an

accredited living wage employer, it understands that reuse is an art, and by looking after its people, it can achieve more, together. The new services offered by collectmyelectricals.co.uk, in collaboration with BJS Home Deliveries and REPIC, are an exciting prospect for 2024 and beyond. It is hope that the new project shall provide a stable and consistent stream of material, enabling even more appliance reuse, and donations, for years to come.
