Tunnel tolls in East London
The BMF has been alerted by Transport for London to a consultation on new user charges for the Blackwall tunnel and the Silvertown tunnel in East London. The plan is to introduce charges for both tunnels when the Silvertown tunnel opens next year. Cars, motorcycles and small vans registered on TfL’s AutoPay system will pay £1.50 off-peak and £4 during peak times - irrespective of vehicle emissions - between 6am and 10pm, seven days a week. HGVs will pay £5 off-peak and £10 during peak times. Drivers who pay via other methods will pay peak charges at all times. Inevitably, £180 Penalty Charges will be imposed on non-payers - reduced to £90 if paid within 14 days - but only one PCN will be applied per day. The consultation is here and it closes in September:
