The Institute of Builders Merchants (IoBM) is the only professional body dedicated to the merchanting industry, focused on fostering skills and professionalism among its members. With over 1,500 members, IoBM aims to enhance career development through accredited
qualifications recognised by employers.
Membership Levels The IoBM offers four membership levels: 1. Student: Start your career with an apprenticeship or accredited qualifications. 2. Associate Member (AIBM): Gain recognition as a qualified professional and a stepping

stone to Full Member status. 3. Full Member (MIBM): Achieve excellence with letters after your name, signalling your proven skills. 4. Fellow Member (FIBM): An invitation-only grade recognising outstanding achievements.
Corporate Supporter membership is also available, promoting advocacy for the merchanting profession.
Path to Chartered Status IoBM aims to achieve Chartered status by 2030, positioning merchanting as a valued profession and career of choice, inviting the entire building materials sector to participate.
IoBM Mentoring Programme The IoBM has launched a Mentoring Programme to support career development: • Mentees: IoBM members seeking guidance. • Mentors: Experienced members willing to share insights.
