What is your current role and how long have you been doing it?


My current role is Technical Support Manager, I have been in this role for two years, and with Fusion Utilities for ten years in total.


What does your role entail? In my current role, I offer technical advice, training and solutions to customers and colleagues for our Power and Fibre division.


How did you get started in the industry? Joining Fusion gave me my first opportunity to get started in this industry, but after a decade I think I have developed a very comprehensive knowledge of the landscape.


What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? My previous roles were sales and customer service which had transferrable skills in how to handle and maintain good customer relations. I have learnt different skills, to give a great customer experience, progress individual sales and expand customer bases.


What would you like to achieve in this role?


I’m passionate about continuing to increase my own knowledge of power and fibre and support knowledge transfer amongst my

coworkers and customer base. I’m pleased to see that women are now less of a rarity and much more readily respected and accepted as experts. Personally, for me having spent nearly 10 years in the industry it’s good to be seen as an expert and help enable others to achieve the same recognition.


What has been the highlight of your career so far?


The highlight for me is getting to the level I am now where I can pass my experience and knowledge to newcomers and others in the company and to see them action what I have taught them. Seeing my team firsthand discuss with customers confidently what I’ve taught them and knowing they feel confident asking me anything gives me a huge sense of pride.


What do you see as the main issues for builder’s merchants and for the construction industry at the moment? We have seen the market decline over the past months due to mortgage interest rates increasing and the cost for materials going up, but peaks and troughs of the market is always part of the territory. Being able to flex our support to demand is important, so we can react quickly to the new growth surge.


What one piece of advice would you give


Independent Builders Merchant Group has appointed Adrian Tansley as divisional md for roofing. For the past three years, he has been operations director for IBMG’s roofing division in


the South, overseeing the smooth integration of Roofing Gear’s three branches; Independent Roofing Supplies’ three branches and MS Roofing’s five branches into the IBMG portfolio. Tansley succeeds Danny Spokes, who is now divisional md for IBMG’s South West division.


Water boosting solutions provider, Stuart Turner Group, has appointed a new divisional managing director for domestic products, John Blackburn. He brings with him more than


25 years of experience in the construction and home improvements sector, and is joined by another new recruit, Mark Ayckbourn, as product manager within the domestic division.

yourself at the start of your career? Keep with it, don’t get disheartened. There is a place for you in this industry and you know what you’re talking about. Keep asking the questions and put yourself forward more. As corny as it sounds, believe in yourself because I wasn’t as confident as I am now, there’s always doubts inside your own head but I’m glad I never listened to them and stuck with it to get to where I am today and who knows where next. I’ve got a great team and fantastic mentors, so the sky is the limit here.


What keeps you busy at the weekends? Watching football, I support Chesterfield FC, my local team, and Manchester City Women. Spending time with Friends and Family I have a 3-year-old and a 3-month-old niece which keep me on my toes.


If you’re at the bar- what are you drinking? Gin and lemonade


What is your favourite book? Favourite film?


I have a couple of favourite films Bridesmaids and She’s The Man.


If you could be a superhero, what superpower would you choose? I would choose to fly. BMJ

The Builders Merchants Federation has appointed Suzanne Millward as Regional Manager for the South West, South Wales and the Channel Islands. With has many years’


experience in the building materials industry having worked for leading buying societies Unimer and NMBS as well as on the supplier side of the industry.


Aircrete manufacturer H+H has appointed Steve Chesney as managing director of the UK business from September 2024. He takes over the role from Calum Forsyth who becomes


non-executive chairman. Chesney joins H+H with over twenty years’ experience in the engineering and construction sectors, most recently as group managing director for an international manufacturer of industrial and commercial fans.
