Industry professionalism celebrated at WCoBM awards
The next generation of builders’ merchants and construction industry professionals were celebrated at a City & Awards luncheon on March 21, organised by Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants.
l The Residential Services division of Lampton Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of the London Borough of Hounslow, has awarded a £36 million contract to Travis Perkins Managed Services for the procurement of building maintenance materials and services. The contract, which will run for up to six years, subject to agreement, was awarded after an extensive and robust procurement process.
l Independent merchant buying group h&b has appointed a new CEO, Peter Fletcher. Most recently he was Divisional sales director with
Genuit Group
Residential Division, aka
Polypipe. Fletcher will be
responsible for leading the h&b group’s strategic vision and growth, as well as helping to drive operational excellence and an enhanced member experience. “I want members to feel the value of h&b membership and for the group to see the value of our members’ success,” he says. “Buying groups are all about buying better and improving profitability and long-term relationships with partnering manufacturers and suppliers, and I am all for that.”

The event, now in its 11th year, took place at Fishmongers’ Hall in the City of London. The event also recognises wider industry achievements around environmental best practice, through its ‘Caring for the Environment’ award, and the coveted Master’s award. This year’s Award winners included students from the Builders’ Merchants Federation and the City & Guilds of London Art School. Members of the Youth Allowed Club also received the Build Up Foundation Leadership Award for Design and Construction.
Organisations affiliated with WCoBM were also presented with awards, namely individuals from HMS Forth, the 3rd Battalion, Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and Beckenham and Penge Sea Cadets. BMF student winners were: Hannah McBride, awarded Best BMF Online Student; Adam Ledger, awarded Best Performing BMF Diploma Student; and Jordan Harrington, who was named Best Performing BMF Apprentice of the Year.
The ‘Caring for the
Environment’ award was Hanson UK, for its work ensuring carbon and waste reduction in its cement manufacturing processes. Prizes were presented by Guest of Honour Alderman Sir Andrew Parmley, KStJ, past Lord Mayor of London (2016-17) and
PaintWell brings Kent Blaxill and Promain under one new board
A new Executive Board has been established to drive growth for the PaintWell group, bringing together the group’s Kent Blaxill, PaintWell and Promain businesses. The PaintWell Group bought Kent Blaxill in November 2022. Keith Reville is appointed chief executive officer of Paintwell, Kent Blaxill and Promain. Jig Patel has been appointed chief financial officer. Previously a board member of decorating specialist Leyland SOM, his experience includes industry giants such as Grafton and Balfour Beatty. Kent Blaxill’s most recent managing director, James Park is appointed Chief Commercial Officer, responsible
an Honorary Liveryman of the Company. During his speech, Sir Andrew emphasised the importance of builders’ merchants in creating a legacy of buildings and structures for the future. The 2023 Master’s Award was
presented to Past Master Steve Turner for his work promoting WCoBM in the City, as well as his involvement in the No Going Back Pan-Livery initiative, which works with Bounce Back to provide training, support, employment and housing to prison leavers. The initiative is funded and driven by Livery Companies with job opportunities offered through their members.
