u Chris with a client

out from everything else he had researched. “What impressed me most was the honesty,” he says. “Ken, CEO at the time, was totally open about the challenges. He talked about the personal resilience you'd need – and he was absolutely right. But it was clear this was a business built around people, not just profit.” The breadth of support on offer – from the RightStart initial training programme through to ongoing compliance guidance, marketing campaigns and peer networks – is designed specifically to help people step confidently into a sector they haven’t worked in before. Chris launched Right at Home Bishop's Stortford in September 2019. Within months, the pandemic arrived. He was just breaking even with around 200 care hours when the phones stopped ringing. He recalls: “We couldn't grow the business, and we couldn't recruit. I underestimated just how much resilience I'd need.” He stayed the course. And as the business

grew, the moments of genuine impact began to accumulate. None hit harder than when his own mother became a client of the service he had built. “To be on the receiving end of the care we deliver

really hit me. You think you know how good your team is, but when it's your own family, it becomes so much more personal. The compassion, the patience, the professionalism – it was everything I hoped it would be, and more.” One comment from a carer has stayed with him.

“She said to my mum: 'You've done your bit – now it's your turn to be looked after.' It was so simple, but it said everything about the way we treat people: with warmth, respect and humanity.” Chris has built a team that shares his values and

his pride. “Every day our amazing team makes a life- enhancing difference, not just to each of their clients, but to their families and friends too. You cannot place too high a value on knowing that the people you love are being well cared for.” He is equally clear about the role Right at Home has played. “It genuinely feels like a family. The peer support and collaboration are second to none. I honestly can't believe people try to do this independently. There's no way I could have built a business like this without Right at Home behind me.” His advice to anyone contemplating the leap

is characteristically straightforward. “This isn't an easy ride. You need commitment, passion, and real resilience. But if you care deeply about people, and you want to build something that matters, there is no better opportunity.”

About Right at Home Right at Home was founded in 2010 with a deliberate focus on quality over volume: longer visit times, private-pay positioning, and a model designed to create trusted local businesses that families would recommend. Today, the network spans nearly 90 territories across the UK, earned 11 consecutive years of Five Star Franchisee Satisfaction awards, and was named UK and European Franchisor of the Year in 2025. 
