Working with family

 Natalie and family

to-day. But all the help, systems and guidance we’ve had has even been above and beyond what I was expecting – I know Sue and John have been blown away by everything Platinum does since we started this journey together. Our buying mentoring, renovation

mentoring and the ongoing support from our coaches is incredible and not only does this give us confidence, the fact they’re always there also provides us with a level of accountability, too.

What advice would you give to anyone considering a franchise? The beauty of franchising is the certainty it gives. Platinum has a saying about ‘combining the certainty of franchising with the security of property’ and, really, those two things have probably never been more important to people than they are right now. But times of uncertainty are also

times of great opportunity and that’s the mindset we went into the franchise with, so my first piece of advice for anyone thinking of franchising is to see it as an opportunity from day one. My other advice is to really listen

and use the franchise’s expertise and support. I felt like I knew the Platinum investment model pretty well after selling it for five years, but I’m still completely guided by the people who really know what they’re doing. It’s important you have your own ideas,

but follow what the franchisor tells you, don’t try and re-invent the wheel.

How has business been and how does the franchisor support you? It’s been an uncertain time for everyone over the past nine months and we’re no different. We joined Platinum in October 2019, with Brexit still looming large and the December General Election on the immediate horizon, too. After losing the initial property we

offered on, we found another early in February, just as coronavirus was starting to lead the news, and completed on the property in the middle of March – a week before the UK went into lockdown.

We pondered our options but decided

the best thing to do was to press on as planned with the property’s renovation, . Our buying mentor, Mike, was one of Platinum’s first Franchise Partners back in 2007 and he navigated his way through the financial crisis with the franchise, so having his advice was crucial. Since lockdown eased, it’s been full steam ahead and we’re now only a few weeks away from welcoming our first housemates. As for the training and ongoing support I already knew just how much Platinum provided from being involved in it day-

What are your plans for the future of your business? Originally, we were going get the first property filled and then take a break because the last nine-to-12 months has been full-on, but I have actually been looking at other properties already! It’s a great time to buy and invest because of the changes to stamp duty and also the demand for high-quality rooms is rising as people make changes to their lives after the lockdown.
