Stability in an uncertain world
I
t's a bit of a tightrope walk writing something topical these days, given how frequently things change. So what can we count on to be consistent these days? Benjamin
Franklin said nothing in the world was certain apart from death and taxes. I'll add another: The world will keep on turning. I know of at least three babies born since the lockdown was enforced (and eased... and reinforced). A couple of weddings, too, house moves, new
schools...All those life events of course took place in a 'new normal' – scaled down, with reduced attendants or social distancing or gallons of hand sanitiser. But they took place regardless. Similarly, franchisors are telling me that new businesses are still being
launched, too. People with long-held dreams of being their own boss are simply going for it – and all because of the stable and proven franchise model. There's no guarantee of business success without hard work and commitment, but with a franchise come certain factors that improve your chances. Franchise networks share knowledge
with each other and come together to pool what their experiences have taught them. Since franchisees generally work in dedicated and protected territories, they are not in competition with one another for customers. Instead, they wish to encourage each other, since what's good for one of the individual franchises is good for the network as a whole. For this reason, and more, many
people in franchising describe it as being like family or a marriage – little wonder couples and relatives invest in this business model together! See page 40 to read case studies of franchisees working with their loved ones and loving it! The National Franchise Exhibition
virtual is held on 2 and 3 October. Log in and talk to franchisors and advisors and find out why the answer to securing your little bit of stability in an uncertain world could be by investing in yourself and a business model with an established name, proven systems, training and support and a network of others alongside you doing the same. Turn to page 25 for your show guide and how to get the best out of the event – good luck!
