Dave and Lynne Lister talk about establishing the X-Press Legal Services fra nchise and why demand for their business is high
H
usband-and-wife team Dave and Lynne Lister launched X-Press Legal Services as a franchise some 21 years
ago after running a successful property search business of their own and they still have the Warrington franchise today. It is from their experience and insight of sitting on ‘both sides of the fence’ that they are able to offer an award-winning franchise model that is seeing its best year yet – despite the efforts of COVID-19.
"X-Press Legal Services is resilient in the fa ce of economic fluctuations"
Why did you choose to launch a property search franchise? When deciding on a franchise, it’s important to consider the long-term prospects of the business and the marketplace it operates in. While nobody can predict the twists, turns and nuances of the property market, you can embark on a business that is designed to thrive whatever happens. People always need homes and property searches are an often invisible but vital part of the property transaction process. X-Press Legal Services carries out
property searches and produces reports Dave and Lynne Lister
for the conveyancing sector, our 27-offi ce network produces over 400,000 property reports every year. Whatever external factors or fl uctuations the property market experiences, that isn’t going to change anytime soon. This year we’ve had Brexit and
COVID-19 yet our franchise business owners are still looking at achieving a 50 per cent increase in turnover year on year as demand for our searches and reports are integral to property transactions. Whether a property is being built,
bought, sold, repossessed, remortgaged or redeveloped, there is a role in the process for X-Press Legal. As a result, the business is resilient in the face of economic fl uctuations and demand has been high since we started.
What types of franchisees succeed at X-Press? More than half of our 27 franchisees have been with the company since year one. That’s impressive – we know we are defi nitely doing something right! The calibre of our franchise owners is also high – we know they are highly valued and respected by their clients. People with ambition, a good head
for technology and the ability to pay close attention to detail are ideal X-Press
Legal franchisees and importantly no legal expertise is required. Our training enables owners to build up regular, repeat business. We know that consistent demand for
our services, coupled with exceptional training and mentorship, have combined to create a network where there are a signifi cant number of time-served, successful, incredibly supportive franchisees for new owners to learn from. Lynne and I are also always at the
end of the phone to support our new business owners with any queries they may have – we’ve been in the franchise industry for a long time so there’s not many things we won’t be able to offer advice on. As owners of the Warrington X-Press franchise we walk the walk and totally understand the industry and the needs of our franchise owners. If your career has been affected by
the COVID-19 pandemic and you are now seeking to take on a new franchise venture, joining X-Press could be the best ‘move’ you ever make.
