Looking beyond T

here’s not a great deal that I can add to the column inches devoted to coronavirus and I won’t try to. Needless to say, the

global situation is bringing about great change and we’re not yet able to say exactly what the landscape will look like on the other side. One thing is certain though: periods of uncertainty are the perfect fuel for entrepreneurial spirit often boxed up in the ‘one day’ corner of your mind. There’s a good chance you have some time at home at the moment to reassess your goals and dedicate some time to research your interest in the world of franchising.

This issue not only contains profiles

of franchise brands and their fantastic opportunities, but also carries features on leading and emerging markets. One such is the cleaning sector, a huge billion-pound industry that is experiencing growth and has proven to be relatively recession-proof in recent decades. See our special report on cleaning franchises starting on page 36. The rise of women in leadership positions continues and female pioneers are well-represented within the world of franchising. The franchise model lends itself well to women seeking to run their own business, as the case studies from page 31 onwards testify.

If you’re finding these times to be

ones of quiet contemplation, there’s useful advice within these pages. Highlights include a guide to common franchise terminology, as well as expert opinion on what sort of reflection and self-examination you should consider undertaking in order to assess how ready you are to run your own business, what kind of franchise might suit you and what you need to do next in order to prepare yourself. As always, we’d love to hear from

you and to know what you’d like to read more of. In the meantime, stay safe, Annie Blinkhorn, Editor 
