How friends Marc and Kevin from Harrogate went from Signarama employees to running the franchise
INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £35,000 M
arc and Kevin are now the proud owners of the Signarama store they worked in for a combined 15 years.
Marc says: “I have been working here since I left university and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Kev and I work well together and it made sense for us to pool our resources to buy the company. We know what a good business this is because we have seen the success for ourselves, so when Michael told us he was retiring and putting the company up for sale it was too good an opportunity to miss. He has built up a really good customer base and we’re looking forward to taking Signarama Harrogate further.” The business support team at Signarama UK have been working with the new owners to help them transition from being workers to bosses focusing on fi nance, management and marketing skills. The pair have already been to the company’s worldwide headquarters in Florida for an intensive two-week training course to learn everything that there is to know about owning and running a Signarama centre. “We’ve got a great team here,” adds Kevin. “Every day is diff erent in the sign business and we get to work with some lovely customers. I have always wanted to be my own boss and it’s not every day you get the chance to buy a ready-made business with a proven pedigree.
“Full training is given at the Signarama headquarters in Florida and is further supplemented onsite back in the UK”
“Being able to access top-quality business advice and support through the Signarama business support centre in London helped us tremendously and we learned a lot from the training. We had expert help with putting together

a business plan, raising the fi nance and now have a business mentor to guide us along the way as we adapt to our new management roles.”
Since taking over the business the pair
have refurbished the shop and installed a new reception area. They have launched a major marketing campaign, including social media, email marketing and radio advertising to establish Signarama Harrogate as the town’s leading sign company. They are also members of the Signarama National Marketing Fund. There are currently many territories available throughout the UK, as well as two resale opportunities in Birmingham West, whose territory also includes the potential business opportunities that exists within the city centre, and in the thriving city of York.
The Signarama franchise is aiming to
grow in a sustainable and steady manner; it is looking for the right people to become Signarama centre owners and will not rush to grow simply to make up numbers. Managing director Aliyyah-Begum Nasser explains: “We deliberately haven’t set a target fi gure for how many new franchisees we hope to recruit. Building a strong network of top-quality Signarama centres that will become an integral part of their

local business community is far more important to us as a business than just selling territories. “We want people with a passion to
provide the highest-quality service who are focused on building long-term B2B relationships by working the Signarama proven business model. We encourage all of our prospective owners to take all the time they need to research the Signarama opportunity.”
Full training is given at the Signarama headquarters in Florida and is further supplemented onsite back in the UK. The cost of the franchise includes the latest sign-making equipment and stylish shopfi t. From the moment a new owner joins the network the UK-based business support team are there every step of the way. Whether it’s helping to prepare a business plan, raising the fi nance or fi nding the ideal premises, there will always be a Signarama expert to assist.
