Rev up your engines

remember my first time… Getting behind the wheel has to be one of my most exhilarating memories. The adrenaline, the fear and the excitement as I went five miles per hour through a cornfield, bumping along the crops and turning my stepdad a shade of pale I didn’t think possible. I can safely say I am now a competent driver, having successfully passed my test and taken to the roads since that day, but I have also had my fair share of useless cars, forever needing new tires, windscreens replacing, or just breaking down. I am grateful to the endless support the industry provided in some very stressful situations, and rescuing me in the early hours of the morning. However stressful a car can be, driving can be one of the most rewarding and liberating things – plus it gets you from A to B. We will always need cars on our roads, which means we will always need car mechanics, windscreen repairers and, more importantly, the automotive industry.

This month, we caught up with the franchisees that have decided to invest in the automotive sector and taken control of the wheel. A vibrant field, the UK’s automotive industry generates hundreds

of jobs and opportunities. Vehicles are continuously updated and manufactured, and, after time, need repairing. The longer we hold on to our four wheels, the more we need them fixing, which means automotive franchises are especially beneficial to clients who rely on their services. Convinced? Turn to page 36 to see the full feature on the thriving sector. But, if cars are not your thing, this issue is jam-packed with expert advice on everything you need to know before owning a franchise in any industry, so make sure you head to page 17 to get started on your homework. After June’s British Franchise Exhibition in Manchester, I’m sure many of you are pondering over the idea of running your own franchise. If so, perhaps looking back at your memories may be a step in the right direction. Do you remember your first time?
