he upcoming electronica 2022 will once again bring the international electronics industry together at the Munich exhibition grounds under the motto: “Driving sustainable progress.” Through their products and solutions, exhibitors at the world’s leading trade fair, ranging from start-ups to global corporations, will show what role electronics plays in paving the way for sustainable technologies for future societal topics. A comprehensive supporting programme with conferences and forums offers room for personal and professional exchange. Following on from electronica 2020, which took place as a purely virtual event, electronica 2022 is once again registering high interest from exhibitors and will fill 13 halls on the Munich exhibition grounds. As a co-located event, SEMICON Europa will take up an additional hall. “The exhibitors, top decision makers and thought leaders want to discuss innovations and trends in person again at last and they’re already looking ahead to the fall with confidence,” says Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer, deputy CEO of Messe München. “For them, electronica is the world’s most important industry get-together and the only one this year that seamlessly covers the complete spectrum of electronics.” To ensure a safe visit, the organisers are implementing a detailed safety and hygiene concept already used at the likes of productronica in fall 2021.
Meeting of international market players All the major distributors and manufacturers will be represented at electronica 2022, companies such as Arrow, Avnet, Bosch, Harting, Infineon, NXP Semiconductor, Phoenix Contact to name a few. As expected, the share of exhibitors from outside Germany is also high; companies from more than 40 countries have registered so far. Philip Harting, CEO of the HARTING Technology Group and new chairman of the electronica supervisory board, says: “The industry is very much looking forward to electronica 2022, its key business platform and a first-class networking event. At last, we once again have the chance to present our innovations and sustainable solutions to an international professional audience, and to discuss the trends shaping the industry in person.”

After a drop in revenue during the pandemic in 2020, the electronics and digital industry has made an economic recovery and is optimistic about the future. “The electronics and digital industry is steadily becoming more and more relevant as the two megatrends of electrification and digitalisation are directly connected to our industry. The ZVEI, the German Electro and Digital Industry Association, will demonstrate this at electronica 2022,” explains Michael Dehnert, managing director of the ZVEI and head of electronic components and systems. Accordingly, the business climate in the German electronics and digital industry is improving further, despite a continuing shortage of material. In 2021, the industry registered revenue of €200bn, an increase of 9.8% over the previous year. These figures are particularly remarkable due to the past year being influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
electronica supporting programme The top-class supporting programme at electronica 2022 will also show what is moving the industry, with a focus on knowledge transfer and professional exchange. During the electronica conferences, experts will discuss current trends and developments in the areas of automotive, embedded platforms and wireless systems and applications. The CEO Roundtable will shed light on current developments in the industry. The electronica forums will deal with practical lectures on topics such as automotive, cybersecurity, connectivity, embedded systems, IIoT, printed electronics, PCB and components, and sensors. New to the programme is the World Ethical Forum, during which thought leaders from the electronics industry will discuss socially relevant issues in the industry. The start-up platform electronica Fast Forward, in cooperation with Elektor, will give selected young companies the opportunity to present themselves at a joint stand and win the Fast Forward Award. And the electronica Careers platform aims to bring together young talents and exhibitors, both digitally and with on-site recruiting, in order to counteract the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in the industry. ●
