Events Medical innovation comes to Boston

Name: BIOMEDevice Boston Location: Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Massachusetts, USA Date: 28–29 September, 2022 Web: www.biomedboston.com Report: Review (by Selena Muraski)

s I made my way into the hall all I could hear around me was the tearing of boxes being opened, the shuffling of paper being moved here and there, the buzzing of machines starting up and my own heart hammering in my chest with the excitement of this hall filled with eager minds looking for the next best thing. BIOMEDevice Boston was underway and I couldn’t wait to see it all. The booths were coming together nicely and we had over 2,000 people that had registered to attend. The day came and went in a blur but by the end of the day we were setup and ready to go.

A A unique speaker

Day one opened with an impactful keynote from famed Theranos whistleblower, Erika Cheung. Now CEO and founder of Ethics in Entrepreneurship, Cheung reflected back on past experiences and how leaders of organisations today can learn from past circumstances and collectively challenge medtech businesses to safeguard best practices as the industry moves forward. Cheung was received by an eager audience of young and diverse entrepreneurs with a significant observable rise in this attendee demographic, as well as industry veterans through an hour follow-up Q&A session. Many other well-attended topics were covered throughout the day including, surgical robotics, sustainability, digital health and cybersecurity.

The show floor was hopping with over 1,000 people roaming around the area throughout the day. As a special welcome we hosted our backyard bash, which included, great company, drinks, lite bites and good old fashion backyard games,

including golf, cornhole and Jenga. This was a great way to unwind and close out a successful day one at BIOMEDevice Boston.

Keeping the exhibitor energy Day two was just as eventful, with high attendance at all of our keynotes and theatre presentations. The Sugar Rush was a success with people wandering the floor with hot chocolate and pastries while attending over 200 exhibitor booths. The exhibitors were all smiles with several wonderful things to say about the event. I think Michael Ginsberg, inside sales/event manager from Qosina, said it best, “Qosina has exhibited at BIOMEDevice Boston for a number of years. We’ve had incredible success in exposing our brand and expanding our reach in our core markets. BIOMEDevice Boston is a great venue for reconnecting with existing customers and meeting prospective new ones. During the 2022 show, we experienced consistent foot traffic, which generated many quality leads. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”

Master class in session And I don’t want to forget to mention the Master Class Conference that was held on both days one and two in partnership with MassMEDIC and Velentium. What an amazing conference with over 283 registrants that attended on day one, to get an overview of the medtech investment landscape, an inside look at various funding vehicles – from strategics, to venture capital – and everything in between and on day two to learn what is expected and required for cybersecurity in today’s medical device manufacturing environment. Wow what an amazing few days. I couldn’t help but have a strut in my step and a smile on my face those last few hours of the show. From what could be heard on the show floor it seems the event was worthy of five stars.

If you are reading this and feeling that you missed out, well you did. But don’t worry, there is a similarly amazing event taking place in the biggest medtech hub in the country, Silicon Valley. Book your trip now to sunny California. BIOMEDevice will be there November 29-30. ●
