PH SCOTTISHARMACY AWARDS
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO PHARMACY
Celebrating Legacy, Leadership and Lasting Impact
The Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy Award represents one of the highest individual honours in Scottish Pharmacy, recognising pharmacists whose careers demonstrate exceptional and sustained impact on the profession and the communities they serve.
Rather than focusing on a single initiative or innovation, this award acknowledges a lifetime of achievement.
Judges look for individuals whose influence extends far beyond day to day practice, reflecting long term commitment, professional leadership and a legacy that strengthens pharmacy as a whole.
Recipients are those who have shaped services, championed patient-centred care, supported workforce development and advanced the role of pharmacy at local, regional or national level.
The award also recognises character, honouring individuals known for integrity, generosity, humility and dedication to others.
Importantly, it celebrates those whose work has not only improved practice but has also helped shape how pharmacy is perceived across the sector.

Last year’s recipient, Gail Caldwell, exemplifies the spirit of the award.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, Gail has played a transformative role in Scottish pharmacy practice.
After graduating from the University of Strathclyde, she went on to hold senior leadership roles including Director of Pharmacy across three Health Boards.
Her early achievements included establishing pharmacy services at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and modernising services at Gartnavel and Stobhill hospitals.
Nationally, she served as Chair of the NHS Directors of Pharmacy Group and later as Vice Chair of the Scottish Medicines Consortium,
influencing policy and access to medicines across Scotland.
She was instrumental in developing the business case for Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration, securing national funding and strengthening patient safety.
During the Covid 19 pandemic, Gail led critical elements of the pharmacy response, supporting medicine supply, care homes and vaccination delivery at a time of national challenge.
Beyond her operational achievements, Gail is recognised as a mentor and educator who has inspired generations of pharmacists.
Her legacy is one of leadership, innovation and commitment to patient care and the advancement of Scottish Pharmacy.
