Now the sail could be hung on the spar, then furled. Aſt er much experimentation, I realized that simply folding, crumpling, and crushing the sail would not make the furl look realistic. Instead, if I twisted the sail as I folded it, the resulting furl was much tighter and more even. But if I laced the entire top of the sail to the spar it could not be twisted. Instead, I used a running loop stitch to put on the majority of the lacing without attaching the sail. T en, at one yardarm, the sail eyelet was tied to the stop and a short length of the sail was laced to the spar. (Figure 12)
