onto 3/32-inch basswood. Aſt er cutting them out with my scroll saw and sanding them, they were close in scale for the two-foot waterlines shown on the body plan. T e liſt profi les did not include the keel. I preferred to sandwich a keel piece between my outer half-hull port and starboard liſt assemblies. (Figure 6) Within this keel piece I cut slots perpendicular to the waterline as guides for drilling and inserting 1/8-inch brass rods for mounting the completed hull assembly onto a plinth. Additional slots were cut into the upper or deck side of the keel piece slanted to match the rake of the masts. By this means I could guide my drill into these slots and achieve excellent alignment of the inserted masts.

I painted the upper edge of the fourth hull liſt with a black magic marker so that, aſt er carving and sanding to the fi nal hull shape, the waterline would be visible. Along this black line I glued a piece of thin thread to act as a paint dam separating the black topsides from the red bottom of the hull.

Bulwarks next were formed from 1/16-inch by 1/8- inch basswood strip and attached to the hull sides. Cutouts were then formed for the spar deck gun ports. Channels for the shrouds were 1/32-inch by 1/10-inch basswood strips.
