Earthy tones in the Sur la Route collection
ON ÉCOUTE CLOU
Clowning Parisian popstress nails it
When UK electro pioneers/stalwarts Orbital selected the French chanteuse Clou (real name Anne- Claire Ducoudray) to provide guest vocals on their May 2023 tune, Oxygène (Are you alive?), they consolidated the Paris-born chanteuse’s already growing reputation as a serious talent. With a lovely vocal tone as pure and clear as a crystal lake, the singer also collaborated this year with Nantes’ brotherly duo Elephanz on the moody pop tune Mexico, although she has not released a solo
HOMEWARES
AUTUMNAL ELEGANCE
Of all the French high street brands that produce homewares, Monoprix never ceases to amaze with its winning
combination of great design, practicality and serious affordability.
For the Autumn-Winter 2023 season, it has released several collections, each featuring aesthetic references to historic design periods or colour palettes. Sur la Route evokes an earthy, country spirit with a chic twist, while an 80s Wall
Street-inspired graphic collection features geometric motifs – check out the cocktail glasses and sculpted candle holders.
The Louxor collection has a Mediterranean feel, while two collaboration capsule collections – with Claire V and Maximilien Pellet – provide elegance and originality.
Items from the Sur la Route collection pictured: metal and rattan lamp (38cm high) , €49.99; ceramic pitcher (7.5 x 21 cm), €19.99; blue plaid throw (main image, 130 x 170cm), €39.99.

❯❯ Oct/Nov 2023 FRANCE TODAY ❘ 23 Clou is blessed
with a crystal clear singing voice and is set to become one of France’s brightest young chanteuses
record since 2020’s Orages (Tôt Ou Tard). Born in Paris in 1983, Ducoudray’s musical journey kicked off with piano lessons as a child. As a funny youngster she was known as Anne- Clown (pronounced ‘Anne-Cloon’ in French), later abbreviated to Clou, a nickname which stuck. After journalism and communications studies, she eventually formed her fi rst group and hit the stage aged 20, before winning a France Inter singing competition a year later. In 2015, she was given opening concert slots for the likes of Benjamin Biolay and Thomas Dutronc and by 2021, she was nominated for a Best Newcomer title at the prestigious Victoires de la Musique.
