NICE PHILLY

American Airlines will launch a service between Philadelphia and Nice, the gateway to the French Riviera. Flights are set to start on May 6.

A true world treasure

The incomparable Apocalypse Tapestry has been inducted into UNESCO’s Memory of the World register, sharing the prestigious distinction with treasures such as the Human Rights Declaration, General de Gaulle’s Appeal of 1940, the films of the Lumière brothers and the

Bayeux tapestry. Created in the 1380s for Duke Louis I of Anjou, son of King John the Good, The Apocalypse, depicting the final book in the Bible, is the largest and oldest narrative tapestry in the world. Its 67 panels unfold over 104 metres, with approximately 500m2 remaining of its original 840m2. What’s more, contrary to most of the works on the Memory of the World register which are not normally exhibited, you can see The Apocalypse with your own eyes at the stunning Château d’Angers, open year-round, with guided tours or audio guides at your disposal to enhance the experience. Plus if you visit by November 15, you can catch a playful special exhibition in the royal lodge exploring the many facets of this late 14th-century wonder. www.chateau-angers.fr

ADIEU, PARIS Self-service electric scooters have disappeared from Paris after a residents’ ballot voted to bid adieu to les

trotinettes, all too often left abandoned. Happily, self-service bikes remain a firm favourite as they offer an easy and affordable means to scoot around the city. www.velib.fr
